Paint the northern lights on a silk scarf. It's easy - no artistic skill required. Perfect for beginners. At Paint a Scarf Alaska you'll enjoy: • A relaxing time of painting by a rushing mountain stream • Friendly instruction from professional silk artist Gina Murrow • A tour of Gina's log cabin chalet with its loft studio and soaring rock fireplace • Breathtaking mountain views • Unlimited refreshments and Alaskan High Tea service • A memorable time with friends and family We meet in a traditional Alaskan log home on a bubbling creek - just 30 minutes from downtown Anchorage. On sunny days we paint by the creek. When it's chilly we paint indoors next to a soaring rock fireplace. Your three-hour experience includes instruction, supplies and Alaskan High Tea - a light meal featuring salad, mini-sandwiches, refreshments and cookies hot from the oven. Great for families and friends to enjoy together. Go home with a scarf to wear - and a story to tell. Paint a Scarf is open six days a week all summer long (closed Sunday). We offer a midday session from noon to 3 p.m., and a Midnight Sun session from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Minimum of 2 painters required. We are located in Chugiak just off the North Birchwood exit, just half an hour from downtown Anchorage.
My husband and I did the "Pub Night'' at the Hilton in Anchorage. We had so much fun. It was easier than I thought it would be. These ladies are super friendly and super helpful. I would recommend doing this! The scarves turned out beautifully!

Girdwood ATV Tour There are no road signs marking the entrance to this part of the Chugach State Park. Most locals don’t even know about this wild scenic area. Adventure seekers do not need to travel many miles out of town searching for a true Alaskan backcountry riding experience. Alaska ATV Adventures focuses on small groups, providing excellent wildlife viewing and unrivaled scenery accompanying a ride specifically tailored to the group. This awesome trail winds through the northern reaches of the Pacific Coastal Temperate Rainforest about ½ way between Anchorage and Girdwood. The Girdwood 3-hour tour includes a hike downhill to spectacular waterfall where salmon come to spawn mid-June through September; during this time there is a very good chance of seeing bears from the overlook and high alpine meadows. Tours Depart Daily: 10:00AM April 23rd - May 24th, 2017 10:00AM and 2:00PM May 25th - September 30th, 2017

Located near Eagle River - this hike for the most part is very easy. Some people will have some difficulty in the moraine (rocks) near the lakes; just take your time and watch your footing to keep your ankles happy for the hike back.
I have been out there a handful of times - the most wildlife I ever see is just ptarmagin. There have been reports of bear and moose - just make plenty of noise while hiking and they shouldn't be an issue. The lakes and surrounding mountains are stellar and well worth the trip.

Started hiking & realized we weren't going to make it so our two teenage sons forged ahead. They made it to the top & said the views are amazing but decided to go the long way back down since the front trail was too steep. They did say it was strenuous but a good hike.

This amazing and wonderful Russian Orthodox Church is located in the Eklutna Historical Park in the Native Village of Eklutna, Alaska. It is approximately 14-miles North of Eagle River and is about a 20-minute drive from Eagle River.
St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church IS NOT LOCATED IN EAGLE RIVER.
This is its proper address : Eklutna Village Historical Park, 26640 Eklutna Village Rd, Chugiak, Anchorage, AK 99567-5153
Google Map(s) are incorrect. There is NO St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church on Centerfield Driver at Suite 201, in Eagle River, Alaska. I am posting photos showing what Centerfield Drive, Eagle River, looks like.
IF you want to see this very historical church, you MUST go to Eklutna Village.

My husband and I visited friends in Eagle River. The husbands visited Odd Man Rush Brewing several times. (By the way,Odd Man Rush is a hockey term. The owners are hockey guys.) The husbands tried the IPA and the kolsch (German pale ale type) while at the brewing place.. They liked both but the kolsch was their hands down favorite. Thankfully, they did bring some of their finds home, too. My favorite is the stout in a 32 oz can. It was REALLY good, IMHO. The Odd Man Rush Brewing is an onsite brewery and bar. The place was really busy when they were there. OMRB also has a souvenir section. My husband bought his brother coasters which look like hockey puck slices with the OMRB logo. (His bro is also a hockey guy.) We all heartily recommend the beer. You are bound to find one just your style.

There are two trails off of the parking lot. The one closest to the outhouse and pay kiosk is a short hop to a gravel beach good for putting in a raft or canoe.
The longer trail is perhaps a mile of essentially flat, packed terrain that serves to quickly get out of sight or hearing of the roads in the summer, and a quick way to get to good snowshoeing in the winter.

The Quilt Cache has over 1600 bolts of beautiful fabric as well as a nice selection of Notions, Books and Patterns.
COLORFUL. INVITING. WARM. FRIENDLY. FASCINATING. WONDERFUL. FUN. WELL LIGHTED. All of these adjectives apply to The Quilt Cache, 12812 Old Glenn Highway, in Eagle River, Alaska. I could add more adjectives to describe The Quilt Cache and I do not quilt. So if The Quilt Cache is all of this and more to me a non-quilter, I wonder what it must mean to a serious quilter? By the way, the word Cache is pronounced as Cash.
My wife and I were visiting Piccolino's Restaurant, directly across the Old Glenn Highway from The Quilt Cache, and spotted it. I have friends who quilt and thinking of one of them, from Detroit, Michigan, made me want to go in and explore The Quilt Cache. So I said to my wife, thinking of our friend in Detroit, let's go exploring.
Into The Quilt Cache I walked. Up to me came a beaming Carla Eisberg who seemed thrilled that I had ventured into her wonderful quilting haven. I told Carla that we had seen her shop on Trip Advisor and were eating across the street at Piccolino's and had decided to drop in and pay a visit. I told her about our friend in Detroit who I believe is a serious knitter / a quilter / loves to crochet / and who seems to enjoy sewing in general. Carla then proceeded to give my wife and I a small memento of her shop to pass along to our Detroit friend. I am posting a photo of this lovely little memento.
The Quilt Cache, stop in for a visit. You may love it like we did.

Due to plans to evaluate upgrading our facilities, our museum, education center and museum gift shop will be closed until further notice.
We were impressed at all the things you could learn when visiting this exhibit. Wolves are a big part of Alaska and this did not disapount.
