Located in the heart of Denison, Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site showcases the home where the 34th U.S. President Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower was born in 1890. Antique furnishings fill the modest frame house, illustrating the working class life of the Eisenhowers. The visitors center celebrates Ike with memorabilia and exhibits featuring his many accomplishments as president and war hero.
Stop here and go to the hurst house first. There's a short film about Ike that is well worth the 5" watching time. Much memorabilia Is there and historic events nicely displayed during his presidency are reminders of our country's history and Ike's influence. The actual home is where as very young child Ike lived. Go drive around it and stop at the statue. There's a butterfly bush with hundreds of butterflies swarming around it.

The birthplace of the nation's 34th President, Dwight Eisenhower.
Full hookups, wooded, quiet, fishing, boat ramp, swimming, pets welcome. My husband and I have been twice. The RV shots were all pull thru, but some can be tricky with a bigger rig. Some are sloped or trees are in the way. The good news is that if you get to your spot and have a problem you can call and they will send you to another spot. The park is patrolled very frequently. We will be back!

The Esenhower bust stands at 16ft tall upon a 5ft stone pedestal flanked by five 35ft flagpoles. Each flagpole represents one of the 5 branches of military service. Personalized engraved bricks feature veterans and their service to our country. Designed by David Adickes.
We were actually going to the Grayson Frontier village and then we were going to see this monument. Well to our surprise we saw this statue so decided just to stop here first and realized frontier village is next to it. The monument is beautiful with bricks of names of the veterans.

We have visited here several times in the past and it is increasingly getting better. They keep the streets well maintained. Shopping is easy and fun. We find the storekeepers friendly and helpful. We especially enjoy the antique shopping. We always find something interesting and the prices are often fair and there seems to be a "bargain" each time we shop. There is no shortage of good places to eat, so plan to spend a few hours just soaking up the atmosphere.

Amenities: .75 mile paved walking track, 52.00 surface acre lake, 148.00 total acres in the park, benches, Culpepper Softball Complex, horseshoe pits, large pavilion with tables, multiple playground units, nature trail around the lake, newly developed fishing pond, tables, Waterloo Baseball Park, Waterloo Pool
Was looking for a new walking trail in a new hometown. Found the short path the first visit, which was quite pleasant. Second visit, found the path around the lake. Wasn't expecting to "hike", but that's what I found about halfway around. Very scenic, quiet; was greeted by some healthy-looking fish feeding near the shore. There's a playground, boat ramp, facilities, etc. Plan to enjoy this park as much as possible.

I hate saying negative things. Hate it. So I'll start with the positive. Really nice location. Cool vibe. Nice to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Nice people. Kind and helpful. I have no complaint with the people at all, I really want to make that clear. As a beer lover though, I have to say, this is some of the absolute worst beer I have ever had. Do not come here for the beer. The IPA used to be the worst beer they had, but they did improve it. It's not great, but it does taste like an IPA now. Everything else, horrible. If you've homebrewed, you probably know what malt extract smells like. That's what the beer smells and tastes like. It is incredibly obvious that these guys do not know how to brew. That's why they've been open for a year and have not achieved really any kind of success. Please guys, learn how to brew. I really, really, really want you to succeed. I would love having a great brewery 5 minutes from my house. If you like good beer, go somewhere else.

The Grayson County Frontier Village and Museum is located in Loy Park, between Sherman and Denison. The park includes a visitors center and county museum, with many interesting historical artifacts and great photographs. Spread across the grounds are about 25 buildings, including area log cabins and homes built between 1830 and 1870, a small replica pioneer courthouse, smokehouse, newspaper office and dentist office, and barber shop. The buildings are all arranged with period furniture and equipment. I enjoyed my self tour using the very informative tour guide from the visitors center, but would suggest checking ahead to see is a tour guide is available for a more informative visit. The volunteer lady at the first building mentioned that all the buildings are open during the Civil War Weekend, with in-house guides, occurring in late October. Having a guide and the buildings open would make a big difference. The cost was minor - $3 - and I spent about an hour walking around and also visiting the museum. Recommended as an educational stop from Sherman or Denison.

The museum is open Thu - Fri - Sat 11AM - 4PM and Sun 1PM - 4P. The RRRM displays many historical items from the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad known as the Katy and other rail lines serving Denison, Texas and the Texoma area. Entrance door with parking is on the trackside of the Historic Katy Depot, two blocks east of US 69. The museum features our Smith Foundation Media Center showing vintage train footage on a 12 foot High Definetion Screen with thrilling surround sound which is available to rent for parties and movie screenings for up to 30 people and "Lil Katy" our trackless kidde train is available to rent for your next party or gathing. Come visit our Interactive Train Simulator the next best thing to operate the real thing. Our gift store has many train related items to purchase. "Katy's Baby, The story of Denison, Texas" by Jack McGuire is available and on our website. Outside next to our train equipment display is the historical marker for the site of the first North-South Rail Connection in the United States.
The museum is only two rooms inside and some train cars outside. It has many nicely.laid out display cases, but it is lacking in interactive exhibits for kids. The volunteer was extremely friendly and answered my son's many questions with a wealth of information and great attitude. This is a free museum, relying solely on donations. It won't take long to go through unless you sit through the movie playing. To just go through the display cases, count on less than an hour.
