Fort Delaware State Park

This destination is not always easily reachable - but between Memorial Day and Labor day the ferries run both from Fort Mott in New Jersey and Delaware City in Delaware. The journey to the Pea Patch Island is pleasant in itself. From the ferry pier you will be transported by jitney to the Fort. Most tourists stop afterwards in Visitor Center and start self-guided tour. The Fort served as Civil War prison and because of that in October the place offers paranormal tours. There are nice picnic areas and you can meet actors in period attire. It is easy to spend and enjoy whole day here. For birdwatchers - herons, egrets, ibises. There is a rookery on the island.

Fort Mott is a nice destination for the whole family. The Visitor Center was for some reason closed on this August weekend and website mistakenly stated the ferry was done for the season but local staff explained these are just mistakes of the central management in Trenton. Self-guided tour is recommended as it gets you to explore all the important elements of the history of this fort . There is nice picnic area available. Ferry to Pea Patch Island and Fort Delaware is a major attraction and it makes it for a very nice combined trip.

Nice pier to view the water and Delaware Memorial Bridge. They have a playground (but this day was rainy, so couldn't give opinion on that.) Nice historical structure (former railroad ticket booth) with explainer, would be nice if it were open. Parking on street, seemed adequate for a Saturday morning.

Go Ape Treetop Adventure Course

It’s not in the dictionary, but if it was, Go Ape would be described as a ‘tree top adventure’.That means we build giant obstacle courses up in the trees using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels made of wood, rope and super-strong wire, and top it all off with the world's best zip lines. We then equip people with harnesses, pulleys and carabiners, give them a 30 minute safety briefing and training and let them loose into the forest canopy, free to swing through the trees. Of course, instructors are always on hand, regularly patrolling the forests (not in monkey suits unfortunately!)The result is spectacular. The Go Ape experience gets the adrenalin pumping, gets people out of their comfort zones and above all (no pun intended), it’s just great fun.

Took the family to celebrate my sons 14th birthday. We all did the main tree top obstacle course and zip lines. Our group of six ranged from 14 to 48. The course was challenging enough but still fun for everyone. The zip lines and Tarzan swings where the highlight of the day for our group. The instructors give you plenty of hands on training before turning you loose in the trees. The course could take a few hours depending on your abilities and those ahead of you! The park provides a great place to bring a picnic and make a day of it. There are walking trails and a pond at the state park. The park will charge an entrance fee to access go ape with in the park. Well worth the small fee.

Cozy Quarters Farm

Our farm offers a fun horseback riding experience. We are all friendly including our four legged friends! We have trail riding, horseback riding lessons, horse boarding, horse leasing, and we offer pony parties. Our ponies come to your party bedazzled and ready to impress!

Reviewed By daisyferret1 - Delaware

Our children were guests at a "Pony Party". Cozy Quarters Farm were the ones hired by the host to supply the pony ride experience for the birthday party. Ponies were brought right to the birthday girl's very own backyard! Setup was FAST, friendly and very professional.

Our children had a blast riding the ponies. The staff, which were a family of 3, seemed really friendly. They seemed to be good with BOTH the ponies and the kids. They helped get the kids on/off the ponies and also helped them feed the ponies a treat during the party. The ponies were decorated with rainbows and their manes/tails were dyed colors to match. The kids thought this was great. The ponies were clean, well mannered and great with the toddlers. Staff made sure to keep the ponies separated when the pony rides were going on, which was a great safety feature.

At the end of the party, the staff removed the roping they had put up to section off the pony rides and cleaned up. No mess was left behind.

Overall, our kids had a blast at the pony party. I am almost positive we are going to be begged to host a pony party for our own kids next birthday, which is something we will definitely consider.

The historic canal is scenic and enjoyable to walk along. Most of its length there is a trails alongside the canal. Within Delaware City it assumes the form of particularly pretty promenade especially in the area of the marina and Battery Park. After a bike ride or hike one can stop at Clinton street of Delaware City in one of the restaurants or visit the pretty souvenir shops.

The New Castle Farmer's Market offers a little of everything. From fresh fish, to fresh meats and cheeses, to fresh produce and baked goods. A great place to walk around on a rainy day as most of the market is indoors. We picked up a few souvenirs of chocolate toffee to take home. Also a great place to get breakfast, lunch or dinner to eat there or take home.

Battery Park

Reviewed By podrozniczka60 - New Jersey

It is a nice park wedged between the Delaware river and Clinton street.
It features several inviting benches pleasant to sit on and a simple strolling area. Tourists tend to kill the time here while waiting for a ferry to Pea Patch Island. The original caisson monument is of some interest. Local community board features some information useful for tourists. The ice cream store is on the other side of Clinton and many choose to enjoy the ice cream in Battery Park's simple picnic area. The Battery Park flows to the ferry area. The bathrooms are in the small building of the Fort Delaware visitor center. Port Delaware is on Pea Patch Island and you can get there by the ferry. The very same ferry extends to New Jersey to Fort Mott. The Battery Park presents well from the ferry. Arriving to Delaware City the whole area presents very well with restaurants and merchants row in the background.
