Stetson Mansion is a spectacular Victorian mansion built for famed hat maker and philanthropist John B Stetson in 1886. Situated right between Orlando and Daytona in DeLand makes it convenient for all visiting the central Florida area. This is Florida's first luxury estate and houses some of the most beautiful and intricate parquet floors in the world. The mansion is one of the first homes in the world to be designed and built with Edison electricity. The owners have painstakingly renovated every square inch of the 10,000 sq foot masterpiece while incorporating today's modern conveniences. All this was done without compromising the architectural or historical integrity. Every room on every one of the three floors is magnificently decorated and every room features a different style floor and window design There is Reservations are required $20-$30 per person and children are $15. Payment is cash at the door and we do charge applicable sales tax. See you at the Mansion!!
We always try to visit special places.
Having owned homes in historic districts and bringing new life to old bones, this home was of interest. Our docent, Marsha, was informative and humorous.
The restoration is impressive and the workmanship of the original artisans is stunning. This home is a must see!

Large collection of venomous snakes and live venom extraction program twice daily. Nature trail, picnic facilities. Open Thurs-Sunday.
They are very knowledgeable about any type of snakes, and they will accept any snake you may want to relocate away from your yard. They milk venomous snakes for use in treating individuals that have been bitten. A worthy cause and beautiful exhibit.

This university is interesting architecturally and historically.
My mother got her Master's Degree here and I drive by/through it a number of times a week when visiting in DeLand. The old buildings are lovely as is the landscaping.

We spent 3 wonderful days houseboating in the area in spring and had a wonderful experience.Great fishing, beautiful springs with crystal clear cold water to swim in in the area. only thing along the river is some of the "beaches" are really local and not kid friendly.

The Athens Theatre is a fully restored historic theatre. Once the centerpiece of DeLand, this red-bricked beauty is a jewel of Italian Renaissance architecture. This historic theatre was designed in 1921 by prominent Orlando architect Murray S. King and first opened its doors on January 6th, 1922. Above the stage's proscenium arch is an original 1920's Grecian Freeze by artist Samuel Judson Stone. Each year the Athens Theatre presents six large theatrical productions by the Athens Theatre Company & Youth Academy, numerous concerts, community events, and gatherings.
So, we were there recently and I decided to read some older reviews on here and I have to say, things have not apparently changed in all these years so, dont' expect anything to be different or good now. One reviewer stated:"The sound production was poor with some voices clearly heard while others were faint and indiscernible". and that is the same now. for sure! We couldnt hear anything but faint voices!
one reviewer said: "but the inside has been quite modernized. It has a cream and dark brown motif that is not very appealing." I totally agree, the inside is uncomfortable and boring and makes for a bad feel when watching a play. it's just like another reviewer said:"i suppose we expected the renovation to capture a bit more "charm" of the old days, instead of just a glorified movie theater."
I totally agree. The outside is nice. Just go to see the outside. I wouldn't recommend going inside to see anything. Another reviewer said that House Management and customer service was awful and two reviewers said that Alexa is not willing to help but give free concessions to one and ask people to come back in another. Well, Alexa seems to still be there so rest assured nothing has changed. So my advice is to stay away for now until production teams and management teams change and they find some real talent. In the meantime, it's like one previous reviewer stated, it is better to spend your money on another theater. It seems they dont give your money's worth here. It's a huge disappointment. I only wish that someone had been honest enough on more recent reviews to let us know before we went. But, here is your warning.

I lead flexible bike rides here frequently. We start on the two mile paved route and then continue on to Blue Springs State Park (2.8 miles) and beyond. The restrooms are always clean and the trail is always cleared quickly, even after storms. At Blue Spring the trail has just been extended for another couple of miles under the tunnel. It's just a great resource for individuals or groups. Highly recommended.

Firstly, they had a great selection of beers. Secondly, the bathroom was hilariously awesome. Lasty, and most important is that it was very dog friendly. People who travel with their pets really appreciate places like this and so do I.

We have been regular visitors for the past few years - it's only a few miles for us and we've not seen another dog park that is this well-kept and open. It is safe and most dogs are on their best behavior. We have also found it to be a great place to practice recall and help dogs become more socialized. We adore this park!

Highland Park Fish Camp in Deland, Florida is proudly frozen in time – it’s the way “old Florida” used to be, before theme parks arrived on the landscape. In 2012, we are celebrating our 50th anniversary of the family owned fish camp, where the largemouth bass are biting year round. This rustic destination has updated conveniences over the years, but nature has been preserved. Highland Park Fish Camp is an authentic haven carved out of the wilderness and the perfect place for the fisherman, the family that loves camping and the nature lover
Good campground. Sites are not the best but are adequate. Bathrooms are okay. Internet and tv were good. Highlight was the boat launch facility. Access to the St Johns river is great for fishing and wildlife viewing (from birds to alligators). Boat rentals are a bit pricey so bring your own if you can. Convenient to the Deland area.

You can read the weekly bulletin and get a sense of some, but not all, of the activities in this church. It is, in my experience, a smaller Catholic parish but they have an impressive number of ministries. And they have a grade school.
We love to get Father Tom for the weekend Mass. An exceptional homilist. And his caring comes through as he celebrates the Mass. He is the central reason, IMHO, that this church delivers such a welcoming and spiritual experience.
When we moved to Deland, we were so impressed with the church, that we registered immediately. We did not need to wait.
Also the parish has the most impressive set of deacons that I have seen, outside of cathedral churches.
Friendly office staff and parishioners. Enthusiastic music ministry. Weekend Masses tend to run about one hour.
