Theatre was very relaxed and comfortable with large seat. Theatre had a peaceful atmosphere and not a large theatre but very friendly and staff very helpful and viewing was very satisfying. Facilities excellent as in toilets food and small cues for tickets either online or desk. Manager very informative.

From the car park this is an easy walk out to the headland, with numerous lookouts over the harbour, the incredible sand blow and out to the Tasman Sea. Most of these are not fenced, so, make sure you keep the kids close, but there is no real danger as the track is wide, safe and well marked. Well worth the short diversion on the way to or from the giant trees nearby, or if you are visiting the nearby beaches.

Gallery and working studio of Rick Taylor, Master Woodturner. Rick specialises in creating pieces from New Zealand Ancient Kauri. Bowls, platters, hollow forms, pens, treasure boxes, carvings and sculptures. Grains of the kauri and colours of the ancient kauri vary from dark browns to golden to the very interesting green kauri. Make time on your travels to have a days woodturning tuition with Master Woodturner Rick Taylor here at his studio. Woodturning tools and ancient kauri blanks for woodturners also available at his studio for you to purchase and take home and make your own kauri bowl, platter, pen etc.
If you are visiting Waipoua Forest, be sure to stop at Rick Taylor's studio. He is an extraordinary craftsman who makes exquisite objects out of ancient Kauri wood. He also generously shares his knowledge of the material and his deep respect for Northland's unique ancient trees. Delightful!

All of it. It had displays of all sorts of periods from early Maori to Dally gum diggers to swamp kauri recovery to world wars displays to the french terrorists in NZ. A great museum. Well worth the entry fee. Allow a good bit of time--it is much bigger than you might think !

Beautiful fresh water lake with golden Sandy beach. You can wade out 50-60m into the shallows and just be mesmerised by how clear the water is and how the light bounces through it. Really great spot for a picnic and there’s an outdoor play area for the kids. You’ll feel like you’ve missed out if you don’t check this out whilst on holiday in the area.

An amazing 30 minute walk through a beautiful Kauri forest park. The path meanders through the park past hundreds of beautiful Kauri trees, but also, very sadly, past a number of trees dying from Kauri Die Back.
