This former railroad track is now a "people-friendly" 23-mile long trail for bikers, hikers, in-line skaters, and horseback riders.
I take my dog jogging every morning on the iron horse trail. It is a paved path that stretches approximately 25+ miles, away from the roads and commercial buildings. It's awesome for cycling, jogging or walking your dog (not too many squirrels).

Offers vast views from its summit.
We made the trip out to Mount Diablo because we were told it offered some spectacular views from its 3900 foot summit. It was a picturesque drive that was only challenged by the numerous bicyclists (we were there on a Sunday afternoon). From what we could gather, the bike riders have a full-lane right-of-way both up and down the mountain. If you happen to cross over the center line when overtaking a cyclist going up hill when a rider is coming down the hill, prepare yourself for vocal abuse from the downhill rider. The view from the summit is quite stunning but be prepared to have the view of San Francisco/Golden Gate Bridge to be hazy at best unless you are there early in the morning.

Since opening in August 1988, the Blackhawk Museum has displayed classic automobiles and myriad exhibitions exemplifying art, technology and history. Local students, residents and international visitors enjoy educational presentations, cultural programs and volunteer opportunities. Since the beginning it has been home to the Automotive Gallery with over 55 vintage, classic, rare and sports automobiles on display. These automobiles are regarded as works of art and range from the dawn of the motoring age through the 1960's. In 2015, a new exhibition, The Spirit of the Old West opened, telling the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life.
This happened to be the last item on our list of places to visit while staying at Danville, CA. The western display was awesome. And the antique display look terrific, but we didn't have enough time. It will be near the top of our list on our next visit to the area.

We’ve been walking around the Lafayette Reservoir for over 30 years, and of all the places in central County to go to for a hike/walk, its still our favorite. The annual pass is a bargain, even more so with a senior discount now. The play area is a favorite of the grandsons, dragging them back to the car is nobody’s favorite, on the other hand...

Not a bad seat in the house. Friendly staff. Love that they have several full bars. You can bring your drink to your seat.

For anyone who lives in the East Bay the Redwood Regional Park provides an amazing escape to nature. Beautiful redwoods, views, variety of vegetation and lots of opportunities for a picnic. Be mindful of racing bikes on some of the trails that allow bikes, it can be a bit much on the weekends!

This is beautiful hiking right in your back yard. My friend and I hiked the whole thing from Bollinger Canyon Rd to Alamo, over a winter season. The views are lovely! We ran into other hikers occasionally, but the trails are definitely not crowded. You can make this a day hike or create a quick loop if you are short of time. The hiking can be steep and strenuous at times and hot in the summer.

The home of playwright Eugene O'Neill is open to the public for tours.
MUST have reservation except for Saturday. You need to be driven to the site by the Park Ranger. We had Tad who was prompt ,courteous and led a wonderful tour. The area is Las Trampas which means in the hills. The house has very little furniture from the time
Eugene O'Neill was writing here but the pieces they do have in his office and bedroom really reflect his interests. The home is also reflects his sadness . There is a barn on site that has plays and grounds to stroll around .

Thus is a small animal museum with attached clinic for injured wildlife and a nice small gift shop. Nearby is a miniature train museum especially wonderful during the holiday season.

This theater is the perfect size - big enough to offer several current movie choices but without the long lines and crowded concession stands. Parking too is convenient in a lot right outside the front door. Neighborhood theaters are not as common as they used to be and I hope this one will be there a long time.
