10 Things to Do in Coeur d'Alene That You Shouldn't Miss

November 1, 2017 Jeremy Dunfee

While it may sound like a French village, Coeur d'Alene (pronounced core-da-lane) is decidedly all-American. Located in northern Idaho, this lakefront resort offers five-star amenities in a beautifully rugged setting. Visitors enjoy everything from pristine golf courses and professional quality tennis courts to hiking on pine-forested trails and biking through natural preserves. The sparkling Coeur d'Alene Lake is the center of most of the action. Sunbathe on the beach, water ski, kayak or tour the area by sea plane. At night, dine in fine restaurants and see top-rated shows. With upscale attractions in an unspoiled setting, Coeur d'Alene offers visitors the best of both worlds.

We recently stayed at the Tripleplay Resort with my family and friends. We love this place! We come here once or twice a year and we always have a blast! The kids love the waterslide at Raptor Reef indoor water park and the go carts and bumper cars are always a hit. The arcade is so much fun. The kids love playing every game so they can get enough tickets to get great prizes!

Sonia was the best! She made the tour fun while sneaking in lessons on animal husbandry and sustainability. Since this is a working ranch we were able to help herd the alpacas across to another field, an experience I will never forget! The gift shop is small but well stocked (knitters will love the yarn). The drive is a bit out of the way, but truly worth it!

Coeur d'Alene Lake

Fed by waters from three different rivers, this pristine, 30-mile lake offers just about every water sport imaginable.

My wife and I woke up this past Sunday to a beautiful Sunny day with the temps in the 50's for the first time in awhile and instead of going fishing, we decided to jump in the 69 Corvette and cruise on up to Coeur d'Alene Lake "Just Because" it was so nice out and she really needed to unwind after a very heck-tick weekend. We arrived at the lake and spent over an hour just walking around, walking over the extended pier that overlooks the lake, and just enjoying nature. We then proceeded to walk around and visit some of the local stores, one of which sells a bunch of Irish items. While in the store I picked up a big green Irish beer hat for the upcoming holiday. After doing some local shopping, we relaxed and ate lunch at a local restaurant and got to know some of the locals and visitors to the area. It was a very very pleasant and fun relaxing afternoon. After getting home my wife thanked me for the wonderful day, and I for her company. All in All a great .... Just Because day...I highly recommend you try it someday!

Tubbs Hill Nature Trails

Offering a taste of the wilderness in downtown Coeur d'Alene, this self-guided two-mile trail loop has historical points along the way as well as several great viewing areas.

Reviewed By Benjamin M - Coeur d'Alene

Maybe its the best place in Idaho. It might be my favorite place in the world, but I'm biased, since I grew up walking distance from there. Go find yourself a little beach by yourselves or go jump off the rocks into the lake or just take a hike on the many trails and you will see what I mean. Any time of year, just go. Pick up a little bit of litter if you see it and bring it back with you to throw it away in the parking lot garbage cans. Keep it beautiful. Tubbs Hill is one of my best friends and will be there for me and for you.

Walked the trail from town to Hampton Inn, took an hour. Plenty of sand, water, boats and folks along the way. Have water and good shoes for the trail, it is concrete. Stop at the sign along the way to read about the hobos.
Very pleasant walk on this stretch.

McEuen Park

Reviewed By CrankingChick - Tucson, Arizona

We spent a wonderful summer day here while visiting Coeur d'Alene. The park seems very modern, beautifully landscaped, and clean. Excellent wheelchair access. I think it was ingenious to make an underground parking facility; it frees up space for recreation and we don't have to look at an acre of vehicles. The park is located on the north shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene in downtown, so it offers a variety of activities. The park itself has large lawn areas for picnics or play, a dog park for your best friend, a massive playground (ADA) with water features, tennis and basketball courts, paved walkways, a Veterans Memorial and public art, and restrooms. It's adjacent to the public library, the Tubbs Hill natural area that offers hiking trails, the City Beach for swimming, and a marina that provides boat cruises on the lake or watercraft rentals. Refreshments are available from concessions in the park or several restaurants within walking distance. The 2.3 mile Mudgy Moose hide-and-seek trail for children and the 23-mile North Idaho Centennial Trail both pass through the park. Several local shops offer bicycle rentals. While you are there, watch for the ospreys that nest in the area.

A sandy beach great for picnics and outdoor sports.

We visited the area for a conference. The park was having "Art on the Green" and it was very well attended. The park was beautiful with nearby beaches where families were swimming and playing. It seemed to be a perfect spot for relaxing and exercising, (even thought it was very hot when we visited, and the Arts event was crowding the regulars I'm sure) it was obviously well cared for. We enjoyed it very much.

Beautiful country side with a brilliant river...the "JOE". If you like the outdoors and love to fish great place to stay. I am an avid fly fisherman and the JOE has always been one of my favorite places to fish for native cutthroat trout (been fishing here for over 45 years). Clear cool water make this a must for fly fisherman. Smell the great outdoors and come on up!

The Art Spirit Gallery

Established in 1997, The Art Spirit Gallery features high-quality, original work by regional artists embracing a diversity of mediums and styles. The gallery seeks to exhibit artists with a unique voice that show a dedication to craft, materials, observation and creativity. The 4,000 square foot gallery has hosted about 200 exhibitions and curated shows, generally opening on the second Friday of each month. It's a vibrant art environment that makes art collecting and browsing relaxed and enjoyable. Gallery founder Steve Gibbs started the gallery after a successful 15-year career as an art director and graphic designer. He strived to promote high-quality art in the resort community of Coeur d’Alene while fostering the work of local and regional artists. He joined with various arts organizations to actively promote art education and develop awareness and participation in the arts on a community and state level. Since Steve's passing on December 31, 2016, the gallery is continuing to move forward to keep his beautiful legacy alive. We have also recently collaborated with the University of Idaho to create the Art Spirit Education Collaboratory. This non-profit will run alongside the for-profit gallery as an educational arts entity. We are proud to celebrate 20 years of business in July 2017!

They have beautiful artwork which is nicely laid out. The gallery has lots of light and space and is children-friendly. In fact, they are just plain friendly here ... as opposed to other galleries in town who announce they want "serious buyers only."
