10 Things to do in Coconut Grove That You Shouldn't Miss

August 6, 2021 Veronika Gaddis

Miami is hot hot hot! And it’s not just the sultry weather. Here, the nightlife is scorching, thanks to a strong Latin influence and spicy salsa culture. Dance the noche away in a nightclub, or indulge in a fancy meal at one of the city’s celebrity-owned restaurants. By day, hit the beach of course, or have yourself a walkabout, taking in Miami’s colorful art deco architecture. Grab a Cuban sandwich in Little Havana, then ride the vintage carousel at Virginia Key Beach Park.

The Kampong

By reservation, enter the gates of this hidden oasis tucked in metropolitan Miami. See the sausage tree, named for its pendulous fruit hanging from ropelike stalks. Stand dwarfed by a hundred-year-old baobab from Tanzania that weighs almost 50 tons. Drink in the haunting fragrance of plants prized by the perfume industry. See the vibrant magenta blossoms of the pink trumpet tree as they color the horizon. Touch the hard hexagonal projections on the skins of the jakfruit, the world's largest tree fruit, or the feathery foliage of the canary yellow royal poinciana from Guyana. Discover the place that David Fairchild, the "Columbus of American Horticulture" called home.

I live South Florida. 45 years and visit kampong gardens last 25 years my life. I donated my time to many non for profit gardens in state. And only some one who know how hard growing tropical fruits trees and flowering trees would appreciate this precious piece of property. As Rare plants from all over the world. I know horticulture and I can identify most of the plants on the property. Truly an amazing accomplishment. Centering it’s hit by hurricanes every 10 years. All about mulching grounds. Letting decompose on the ground naturally. The average moron looking for a green beautiful garden better go to Fairchild

The Coconut Grove Farmers Market a neighborhood staple for decades and one of the area's best-kept secrets, there is a little something for everyone, specifically catering to the vegan, vegetarian and/or organic crowd. Many different local food vendors with unique and varied offerings including nut-based, plant-based, dairy-free, vegan desserts, etc. etc. The organic produce selection is more complete than any other farmers market that I've been to. There are other intriguing products and services at this farmers market, such as numerous massage therapists, antiques, jewelry, clothing, extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegar from Italy, too! If you've never been, you should check it out. It's every Saturday from 10AM to 6PM.
