We visited StarView on a rainy Thursday afternoon for lunch and some wine tastings. I prefer semi-sweet and sweet wine and enjoyed most of the wines we tasted. The woman serving us (I regret that I don't have her name) was also super knowledgeable and...MoreThank you for visiting; we appreciate it! We hope you can visit us again in the future and enjoy some wine in the sunshine!

My daughter and her friend went zipping for the day. They loved it! The primary focus here is safety. Nearly tied with that is customer service. The employees are awesome to deal with.
This is our 2nd time and we will ne back. (I won't zip again - I am too afraid of heights and it was hard the first time we went so I didn't go this time).

This place is awesome for kids and kids at heart. It is a medieval setting with a "castle" labyrinth play area. The grounds are always clean and well maintained.
There are no admission and the park is open during daylight hours.
I highly recommend visiting with or without kids!

Alto Vineyards is Southern Illinois' oldest, most award-winning winery nestled in the Shawnee National Forest owned and operated by the Renzaglia Family. Celebrating 25 years in business, Alto Vineyards has built a brand-new 5,000 square-foot Tasting Room next to their picturesque vineyard in Alto Pass. Located 25 minutes southwest of Carbondale, Alto Vineyards is Southern Illinois' premier winery on the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail and now invites you to view the new facility overlooking the magnificent rolling hills of Southern Illinois. Salute!
This was our second stop on the wine trail today and as usual we were not disappointed. This is not California, Oregon, Italy or South Africa but the scenery is lovely and the hospitality great. Our favorite at Alto was the Shiraz which they import from a family vinyard in Austrailia. After enjoying our tastings we headed to the back where we enjoyed our wine along with the friendly crowd and view. We live 300+ miles away but always enjoy our visit to the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail.

Southern Illinois has some wonderful natural attractions and Giant City State Park is one of them. There are several hiking trails of varied length and difficulty. Beautiful forest, bluffs, and wildlife. The park also has a CCC era lodge with wonderful restaurant and rental cabins. Our favorite trails were the Giant City Nature Trail and the Trillium Trail.

We were visiting for the eclipse weekend and stopped here for a glass of wine. Loved the interior with lots of owl decor, but not over the top. :) The red wines were fabulous, especially I think it was the Owl blend? Staff was great. Resident kitty with a skull and crossbones tag on his collar - but couldn't be more sweet. :)

This site is well worth the drive into the country and up a narrow, winding mountain road. The Cross is awesome, and the visitor center is very welcoming. The staff person was most pleasant and answered our questions. She also added some interesting personal anecdotes. I would highly recommend this stop. They expect huge crowds for the Total Eclipse in a couple weeks. Glad we were able to visit before then.

This was our first time visiting Blue Sky and we greatly enjoyed our visit. It was a rainy, dreary Thursday late morning that we visited, but we were treated to a delightful tasting. The employees we interacted with were all super knowledgeable and friendly. There were a few other guests there at the time of our visit, but the inside seating area is so large that we never felt crowded. I enjoyed all of the wines I tasted; I prefer semi-sweet and sweet wines.
We sat with a glass of wine by the windows and ordered the spinach artichoke dip for a little late morning snack. It was awesome! The decor is beautiful, and what we could see of the grounds looked awesome as well. I only wish it was sunny so we could explore the outdoor areas. We bought a few bottles to take home with us!

Intimate and comfortable boutique winery at the southern end of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, 20 miles south of Carbondale. Frank Lloyd Wright inspired design with inviting courtyard and view of vineyards. Complimentary tastings of wines ranging from an outstanding dry red to dessert style Riesling. Soda, beer, and snacks available for purchase, picnic baskets welcome. Near art galleries, B & Bs, and beautiful rocky cliffs and quiet streams.
This is a totally out of the way adventure but to a place that serves delicious wine with a pleasant hostess! Bonnie was outgoing and very knowledgeable about just what we would like in a wine! We stated we like the semi-sweet to sweet and she did not disappoint! Ended up taking four different gems home with us! Sam and Roxie (her 2 dogs) were such a pleasant surprise being so loving to strangers! Such a beautiful and quaint little sitting area and porch area (once the weather is nicer) to enjoy a picnic basket lunch! We are DEFINITELY coming back!!

Von Jakob has a great location with great views. They brew several types of beer which are all pretty average, along with their pretty average wine. They have some German-style food which is okay. Their sauerkraut was packaged cabbage mix with Italian dressing on it. They also have a karaoke night which is kind of funny. There isn't much musical talent in rural Pomona. Overall there isn't much positive or negative you could say about the place. It is better than some of the wineries around the area, but worse than others.
