Formerly known as the Castle of Glooms, this castle is beautifully sited upon a narrow bridge overlooked by the Ochil Hills. The 15th century fortress of Castle Campbell is dramatically situated above Dollar Glen. The oldest part is a well-preserved 15th century tower around which other buildings were constructed, including an unusual loggia. Castle Campbell was once the home of the powerful Campbell earls of Argyll, and has connections with historical figures such as John Knox and Mary Queen of Scots.
From the moment we stepped foot into the castle grounds we were greeted y such a lovely friendly member of staff. The castle itself is great and although a lot is no longer standing what is left is great. The rooms, the original staircase, costumes to try on and a great kids quiz to complete. We were here about 2 hours. The views are amazing and picnic facilities indoor and out. So pleased we visited then we went for a stroll down the Campbell Glenn. Stunning! And all dog friendly Afterwards we went to a local tea rooms Perfect

A circle around the Dam will take about one hour and has no obstacles, difficult climbs or impediments. The views north are absolutely stunning and the range from the Ochil Hills to the start of the Highlands north of Stirling are sumptuous. Worth knowing that there is a cafe to visit at the end so that you can reward yourself with freshly made light lunches, fresh baked scones and cakes. Well, after all the effort, you deserve it, don't you?

Stunning walks around a very beautiful area. Only disappointment was the castle which we didn't feel was worth paying to enter.

We visited on a cold bright day and the garden was stunning. Felt we could have been in Japan. Beautifully laid out with authentic lanterns and pagodas. The cafe is good., Excellent soup and sandwiches plus scrummy cakes. Would love to visit again.

This bold medieval keep may look forbidding, but inside it’s full of art and riches – not to mention intriguing tales. The tower dates back to the 14th century and was built to guard a strategically important ferry crossing on the nearby River Forth.
This place seems somewhat out of place hidden behind a supermarket and the Council Offices, and you get there by driving through a housing estate. However turn the corner and the access road to the tower opens up and it is like stepping back in time. Recommend starting from the top and working down as others have mentioned. Views from the roof are just stunning with a 360 panorama over the Firth of Forth, up to Stirling Castle, round the base of the Ochil Hills and down to Clackmannnan Tower. There are four floors to visit, all quite different. The Great Hall at the top has the most wonderful mediaeval roof and the restoration of the ancient oak timbers can clearly be seen. Floors 2 and 3 have their own guides available to relate tales of the history and ghosts of the Tower, along with a unique internal well on floor 2. The ground floor has public toilets and a small gift shop, along with the hole in the floor giving entrance to the dungeon below. Car parking is nearby with room for about 12 cars and a couple of coaches. The surrounding grounds have their own history with the former Alloa House and make a relaxing place for a stroll after the visit to the Tower. Combined with the enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff who clearly feel passionate about Alloa and the Tower, this place is well worth a visit. With the narrow spiral stairs, most certainly not suitable for people with limited mobility!
