Casa dos Contos is where the crown's representative gathered taxes, melted gold, made coins housing the nobleman's family. It is well preseved and with very good information.

This really amazing church is more like an opera house inside, the way the curved balconies are arranged. It costs BR10.00 to visit and is only open in the afternoons. The ticket office is actually a few doors down from the church itself. There's no photography allowed at all, but you can take a tour with a Portuguese speaking guide. In the basement is a lovely gallery of antiquities including some astonishing gold and silver. Not to be missed.
