Campinas (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐ̃ˈpinɐs], Plains or Meadows) is a Brazilian municipality in São Paulo State, part of the country's Southeast Region. According to the 2010 Census, the city's population is 1,080,999, making it the fourteenth most populous Brazilian city and the third most populous municipality in São Paulo state. The city's metropolitan area, Metropolitan Region of Campinas, contains twenty municipalities with a total population of 3,656,363 people.

Never expected this small zoo / park that’s situated in the hart of Campinas. Built in 1915 but still very well preserved. The park is like a jungle with beautiful plants and small animals (Cotia) walking freely in the park. There is a walking path with signs how far you are. Around the middle there are animal cages with parrots, owls, monkeys and even 2 lions, a jaguar and hippo (!). I am normally quite sceptic about zoo’s like this but the animals seem healthy and have enough space. What a great surprise for this quite boring city...
