It used to be one of the best kept secrets among Cheshire's many attractions but over the past few years it has undergone some major changes and is now recognized as one of the country's leading specialist museums. Situated in Higher Poynton, the museum is on the site of the old Anson Colliery. Engine enthusiasts from all over the world come to visit this fascinating museum. However, it is increasingly becoming a "must visit" attraction for non-enthusiasts too and won the "Visitors Choice" award (voted for by the public) when they were asked "where would you take a visitor to the Macclesfield area"? As well as the largest collection of engines in Europe, the museum also has changing displays of local history items such as photographs, maps, mementos and keepsakes from the Vernon Estate and Anson Colliery. Open one weekend a month in 2015.
Pleasantly surprised at just how good this place is, loads to look at, loads of running displays lots of info and really accommodating staff and volunteers, it says allow 2 hours but we were there more like 4 hours, very reasonable prices in the cafe. A really nice day out.

We're the UK's number one charity zoo, with over 21,000 animals and 500 different species, including some of the most endangered species on the planet. With 1.9 million visitors every year, the zoo is an all-year round, full-day visitor attraction for everyone. We're open daily from 10am, except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Car parking is free and on site. Facilities for disabled visitors, including self-drive electric scooters and wheelchairs.
Every time I come to this zoo I see a different animal so I have a different experience meaning that an annual pass is the best value for money. The zoo is a great all weather attraction because of all of the indoor areas which includes the monkey house, the tropical house, the jaguar house, butterfly house, bat house, the new Islands house and the aquarium. You can also hop on the monorail to get a different view of the enclosures out of the cold. Plenty of picnic area if you don’t want to buy food with huge play zones for children The elephants are always impressive. What a privilege to see the zoo everyone is talking about since the series secret life of the zoo was aired! A great educational experience.

With its Hall, extensive gardens and playgrounds, petting zoo, pitch and putt and other attractions this is a great place to bring young and old for a day out on a nice sunny day. Parking is cheap at £3 for the day and there are plenty of food outlets dotted around, although it is invariably cheaper to bring a picnic. Short term attractions will lighten your pocket, yet keep any youngsters expending more energy. A great place.

This parish church is a complete gem which in certain aspects can compete with many cathedrals..The star of the show is its chancel with its vault, bosses and magnificent windows.Best of all are the superb choir stalls which are only really bettered by the earlier set at Chester Cathedral..A real plus was the brave step taken by the arch victorian church restorer George Gilbert Scott to open up the space under the central tower to put a coloured vault which is most effective..If all this is not enough there is a magnificent medieval stone pulpit an interesting 17th centry one..There are interesting monuments, victorian screens even an attractive 1970's tapistery. This is a real treasure house which needs shouting about and visiting. The local church needs to be commended for keeping this church open and well cared for.

Discover Tegg's Nose Country Park and experience Cheshire's wild hill country where rock dominates the landscape. Dry stone walls and sturdy barns add to the dramatic character of the steeply sided valleys while many of the hill tops are pitted with old quarries. Quarrying was certainly happening at Tegg's Nose in the 1500's and continued until 1955. Men blasted, hammered, hacked and chiselled away at the rock in harsh conditions for low wages. Today nature has softened the scars of industry and there is plenty to see at Tegg's whatever time of year. You don't have to go far to enjoy exhilarating views over the Cheshire Plain and on a clear day you can see Liverpool's cathedrals and Welsh hills beyond. The car park provides an excellent base for numerous walks and throughout the year there are many events taking place at the visitor centre.
Love our walks up Teggs Nose with the dog it’s a lovely spot in Macclesfield. The views from the top over the Cheshire plain are simply breathtaking and on a clear day you can see Snowdonia

The romantic gothic Castle - a product of the early 19th century - stands on a high rise above a lake. The Castle is surrounded by sweeping lawns and a variety of mature trees, including Cedars of Lebanon, Oak, and Chestnut. The gardens surrounding the Castle provide a lovely mix of colour and height, with intriguing walks around the lake. There is a Temple Water Garden, Rose Garden, a variety of mixed borders. Plantings are planned to provide colour at all times of the year.
Nestled in the most beautiful garden setting this gorgeous little cafe offered the most delicious coffee and lunch time treats, served by the most delightful staff! Such lovely detail in the cafe from macrame plant hangers to board games and Jenga for the kids our visit to Cafe in the Gardens at Cholmondeley definitely won't be our last! Thank you to Belinda, the lady who runs the cafe who has done an excellent job in creating such a welcoming space within a beautiful venue. We will be back soon for sure!
