Yesterday I joined my new Scottish friends visiting their sister and aunt, Kay, also from Scotland, who had booked this horse riding tour at Stephanie Decker’s Ranch!! I was so happy because I have wanted to do this since I heard about it 3 years ago! I want to say thank you to Stephanie and Carlos, her Trail Boss Ali, and all of her beautiful, sweet horses, for the perfect 2 hours riding the trails above Lake Chapala!! We are all novices, to say the least, but we were given constant guidance and gentle, direct and timely instruction by her skilled Team of 3. Her Rancho is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and the gorgeous horses were running, romping and playing in their pastures while we enjoyed meeting her pet pig and giving him his favorite ham slaps! It is a wonderful trip for anyone to take, tourists or residents!!

A pleasantly clean malecon where tourists and locals spend lots of time especialy on weekends. Shop in the many stalls for clothing, trinkets, souvenirs, eats, the infamous charales. Known as the fishing are, beautiful fishermen statues, a nice pier and even hire a boat driver to take you out to Scorpion island or any of the islands on the lake, plus see a different perspective of al the villages dotting the shore of Lake Chapala. A Tapatios ( Guadalajarians) delight for summer vacations or weekend visits, many with summer homes, Chapala is beautiful.

Many Americans and other foreigners help make up the 20,000 people living near this picturesque lake, the country's largest inland body of water.
Prior to coming here, we didn’t know what exactly to expect. In an Uber it is jut shy of an hour from Guadalajara and it’s the closest you’ll get to a beach experience of staying in Guadalajara. I must say this is one of the most beautiful lake experiences I’ve had. There were a few Mariachi bands playing both by the lake and in a local beer garden. To add, there were some nice landmark features of which you can see in my picture illustrations. Everything in this area was inexpensive. To add there were various market stools along the beach area. The highlight of our visit here was our boat ride in the lake. It was the most perfect way to cool down at sun rise.

The plaza together with the resta6in the west corner are a real Mexican deal. Go in the morning, 8 to 10 is good. The bread stalls (with the elusive Birote Salado a must try) fried tacos and tostadas, and the two sit down with service are delicious. Menudo, Posole Chilaquiles and all the different ways to make eggs, Mexicana, Rancheros, Divorciados, must try if you and to get a taste and feel of a real Mexican breakfasts grub. The fresh tortillas! If you want to get a real feel of the rural traditional Mexico this is it in Chapala.
