Millet Bird Sanctuary

Reviewed By grrraham - Kamloops, Canada

We did the hike in February, it takes about 1.5 hrs of up and down medium difficulty maintained circuit trail. Great views and the forest is beautiful, a lady who works there was our guide and was very nice to talk to. It was a nice hike as others were either too short (Tet Paul is about a 30 minute walk) or too long. You do not need a 4x4 to get up here, we had a Chevrolet Spark. It's $10usd pp for the guided hike. We had running shoes which were fine, anything but flipflops are workable. Thoroughly enjoyed. We didn't see any parrots BUT - for parrot viewing we found Morne Tabac Parrot Sanctuary, just above Soufriere (5 mins past the Beacon restaurant). Saw loads of Parrots and had an amazing time, might be easier to get to for cruise guests. There's a hiking trail but you can also just walk to the viewing platform. It's $5usd pp. Definitely recommend.

Castries Market

A lively and colorful market bursting with tropical fruit and vegetables.

Reviewed By S1B127 - New Brunswick, Canada

Castries market is huge, there are 2 separate markets one is fresh local fruit and vegetables and the other is souvenirs, clothing, hats and local wares.. you need to take your time and take it all in to really appreciate it.. The local venders are sweet friendly people, who put in long hot days.. So when they ask if you would like to see or buy something, please don’t be rude and ignore them, have the courtesy to acknowledge them and if you are not interested just say so... Mutual respect is such a big part of the St. Lucian people..

We went into quite a few of the shops, we loved the souvenirs shops and purchased a few goods, plus a lovely little handmade purse from a market stall. Even though the locals hassle you to buy goods, they were very friendly.
