We made an early start to beat the heat and caught the gorgeous morning light in photos. It was nice and quiet to beat the crowds as well. We did the 14km round trip to the Art Gallery and I have to say that the major beauty is in the offshoot attractions of the Moss Gardens, The Ampitheatre, Wards Canyon and The Art Gallery. They are more strenuous to reach but I highly recommend if you are physically able. There is only 1 toilet at the turnoff to the Moss Gardens and then another at the very end of the gorge so make sure you go before heading out and make use of the one at the Moss Garden turnoff. Take plenty of water, wear very comfortable and supportive footwear and a hat and I recommend a walking stick to keep your balance while navigating the stepping stones across the creek crossings. If you set out early enough there are several wooden sticks at the start of the track for this purpose but they soon disappear until people start returning from their walk around lunchtime.

Moss Garden is accessed 650m from the main track, and up quite an incline and lots of stairs. The boardwalk deposits you with a vista of a waterfall and pond in front, but the real hero is the huge mossy rock faces that run the length of the boardwalk. Water was dripping/raining down the lush green moss faces providing a very calm and colourful wall. From the turnoff, it’s a further 1.5km to Ampitheatre or 1.8km to Wards Canyon, the visitors centre is 2.8km return from here. Also, just 100m further along from Moss Garden turnoff, you will find bush toilets and untreated water.

It was a hot day. This walk is not for the faint hearted. It is definitely worth the trek but there are parts in the uphill grind where you do begin to question your existence. You will feel fantastically accomplished once you see the view of the park from the top of the Gorge. On a clear day, you can see through the whole area and it is stunning.
