This is a real ‘must see’ in Caceres - a tribute to the labours and research undertaken by Jose de la Torre Gentil which celebrates his discovery of the 12th Century Arab house in his own home! We were thrilled to meet his granddaughter who introduced us to the house. A wonderful piece of living history.

Family brought me to Extremadura and Caceres and I have returned now several years and I just love it! Yes, it´s warm and speed of walking becomes a bit slower and the water pits needed more often but it´s so worth it! Caceres has so many great things; history, buildings, Plaza Mayor with all it´s cafeterias and outdoor servings, great views to the unique towers and old murals (also seen in Game of Thrones). In addition you have world calss resturants and in Casar de Caceres, just 13km away, you have the price winning cheesery "Queso de Casar" where you can by factory fresh cheses and even have a tour with tasting (wine included)!

Just off the Plaza Mayor, this is one of the tower you see from that square. It is a rather imposing tower, even though it is not very high. The latter is great, as one can climb up this tower, which is not too arduous. From the top you enjoy a great view over the plaza Mayor as well as the old town, and can walk over a small section of the city wall to a second, less imposing, tower. A great start to a visit of the old town and get yourself orientated.
