Burra Heritage Trail

Reviewed By GClife - Gold Coast, Australia

We had a day and half and made good use of Burra Passport, which costs $30 per person, which gives you access to a key to a number of historic sites. We enjoyed the goal, the old mine site, and the cottage. The town oozes history, with many of the houses with blue plaques recording the history of previous residents. The tourist office is staffed with enthusiastic ambassadors for the town. My only area of improvement would be the Bob Accord Mining Site, which wants to charge an extra fee for access, make it simple and have one entry for all.

Redruth Gaol

Breaker Morant was filmed here if you didn’t know. Part of the Burra passport tour. Had the place to ourselves during our visit. Was exactly as it appeared in the movie. Bonus was the real history of the site presented there. Informative regarding its history as a gaol and as a girls reformatory. Well worth the visit.

Burra Mine Lookout

Reviewed By kpiddy - Brisbane, Australia

Turn in off Market Street as soon as you see Peacocks Chimney then head towards the Burra Mine Open Air Museum, continue pass the entrance to the carpark and head up the hill to the mine lookout. From here there was a great view looking over to the water filled open cut mine and in the distance a variety of mining buildings, a taster of interesting things to discover on our visit to the open air musuem. Information boards in the small carpark provide a visitor with a brief history of the site.

Burra Copper Mine

Reviewed By 875sheilaw - Adelaide, Australia

We took the KEY provided by Information at Burra. It is a wonderful thing to do in the mining town of Burra. The mines footprint ruins hold guys interest especially. The Museum information is great. In fact it is perhaps the only thing to occupy you if you have a few days to spend there. It introduced us the character of place, and the nice community as we milled around, had lunch and stayed at the Caravan Park.
