Park located on the banks of the Blanco River; great for trout fishing.
My husband and I have been going to Blanco state park for decades. We have made many day trips there from Austin for swimming, picnicking and fishing. This month (February), we took our travel trailer for the first time. Staying overnight at the park certainly had a different feel from just a walk around the campground. We stayed mid-week and the campsites filled. On the day we arrived, the park service dumped 2,000 rainbow trout in the river near the low water crossing. That was interesting. We fished for 2-3 hours and caught only one trout. The US Highway 281 bridge crosses above the park near the ranger station. Traffic has got much heavier over the years but the noise did not bother us much. The lady ranger was not friendly. The Blanco downtown square is less than a mile from the park. The square has some quant shops and several restaurants. We will be back.

This place was a fun way to spend a few hours. The beer selection was good and now they even have whiskey to taste. Great atmosphere with board games and wide variety of beer samplers/pints/half pints or cocktails to choose from. Would definitely check this place out again if I am in the area.

What a blast!!! We went here for our anniversary. The horses were great. They were very well trained. Travis was great too. He isn't strict at all. If you are wanting to ride ahead or feel more comfortable walking Travis allows it. I really liked that.

Really enjoyed looking at all the old means of conveyance. They will make you appreciate our modern cars. Best unexpected treat was the 2 hr. old long horn baby in the pen right there at the museum.

I've past this small place before and made it a point to check it out the next time I was nearby. Why did I wait so long? If you enjoy whisky then you must visit and do the whisky sampler. I walked away with one bottle for my collection and plan on returning.
The photos can do better than words and it is very family friendly.
It's worth a drive if you are anywhere near Blanco.

The Old Blanco County Courthouse was built in 1885. It was only used as a courthouse for 4 short years. The County Seat moved to Johnson City in 1889. The Old Blanco County Courthouse is owned by The Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society, a 501 (c) (3). The mission of the O.B.C.C.P.S. is to restore, preserve, and maintain the Old Blanco County Courthouse as an historic site, and as a productive integral part of the community of Blanco. Dedicated members and friends give and work for the full restoration and care of this jewel from the Gilded Age of Texas Courthouses. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10 to 4 and on Sunday from 12 to 3.
A Lovely Old building in a quaint little Texas town and located in Main Street, go figure !
Now the Visitors Centre and a real welcome given with plenty of advice & hints. The meal at the Redbud Cafe being just one but we wandered around and read the history boards and trod the squeaky boards upstairs as well ! Worth a quick stop whilst in the area !

Lavender is king in Blanco, but this pottery shop has artistic items from a number of local artisans, including clothing, photographs, pottery, jewelery, and, of course, lavender everything. Some of it is from third world sources, but looks mostly fair trade compliant, and is certain to grab your interest in at least one area.
Right next to the Red Bud Cafe, there is even a connecting doorway. Loved the place, and found one or two items we just couldn't live without.

I absolutely adore this place! The farm is open seasonal when the lilacs are in bloom. We picked lilacs from the field for $5 a bunch. We also bought some soap from the small gift shop. The lady running it was so kind! She even suggested other places in the town to visit while we were there. They have a website with their information about bloom dates and hours.

I love antique stores. This one is special. Very large with tens of sellers. Heidi runs the place and she knows everything in there. She also does an amazing job of displaying the myriad of items. We have purchased many items from $2.00 to &2,000. This is my favorite antique store. PS have lunch at the chess club or red bud.
