This 13th-century fort includes a number of preserved Byzantine churches, including the 13th-century Church of St. Mary of Vllaherna and the 14th-century Church of the Holy Trinity.
A castle as it was built for, still has houses that are lived in inside the castle walls. You can walk on the walls in most parts and see the old historic buildings. There's several places inside to eat and drink inside and a shop or two for supplies as well as souvenirs. You have good views from all sides down to the town and river. Only downside is that it's a long walk up a steep hill to get there but it's definitely worth the trip. There's a 100 lek charge to get in , 70p English.

We visited here on our way down from the Castle.
After paying 200 Lek each, we selected an English information sheet and self-toured the 2 floors to inspect the sitting, working, and living rooms, each fully furnished for the period. I especially liked the unique cone shaped, open fireplaces while my wife pointed out the dining arrangements of low table with silver communal dishes. An attached shed housed the wine press, extensive tools, and just outside of it, the important household well.
This is a very worthwhile exhibit.

I found the neighborhood very quiet, atmospheric and genuine. Although there are few guesthouses there, most of the houses seemed to be occupied by families. You get around cobbled streets and alleys on foot only. Well worth a visit.

Many from the city of Berat some out to Bulevardi Republika on summer evenings to stroll up and down the very wide pedestrian only boulevard. It is lined with cafes, restaurants and betting shops and seems to be the central entertainment hub for the city. Apart from this there is little to see or do.

We spent some time touring the winery, but the highlight was the tasting. We were given two whites and two reds, all of which were quite good. We were also given cheese, olives and toast. The setting is very pleasant and relaxing. It is well worth a stop.

View, atmosphere & good wine: Nurellari Winery has it all!
If you happen to be around Berat, I definitely recommend you a short trip here.
The Winery itself is freshly renovated, with a strong attention to tradition and original atmosphere.
The surrounding area is really nice and peaceful and you'll definitely enjoy the view from the huge windows of the testing room.
No need to say about the good good wine we had the chance to taste!! :)

Perched on the sheer mountain face below the castle, this church looks great from a distance. If you take the climb up, though, you'll find the premises locked (except for certain days in July and November), so it's impossible even to get a good picture of the exterior.

The King Mosque is actually the centre of a complex of religious buildings which date back to the end of the fifteenth century. As such, they are some of the oldest Islamic buildings in Albania.
The King Mosque has some attractive murals on its ceiling, including rosettes and verses of the Quran. It is open to Western tourists as long as you remove your shoes and act respectfully. The portico was an eighteenth century addition and it is very attrative in its own right.
The complex also includes an Islamic library which features some beautiful woodcarving. The interior is now mostly empty but you can admire the interior. The third major building is a Whirling Dervishes inn, with an attractive timber balcony. Also keep an eye out for some marble tombstones of local dignitaries in the yard.

The first ideas regarding the development of a “rafting” sport in Albania blossomed in 1985, when Zamo Spathara, today the President of the Albanian Rafting Federation, went to Hambull a village in Berat, located on the edge of the Osumi River. A little adventure began immediately, and the spare wheels of our vehicles felt it the most.
First thanks to Zamo and Blerina who made us very welcomed trough all the journey. The canyon is almost 3 milion year old and hase preserved all cuteness of untached nature in its uniquenesse with Cathedral and Demon's gate to Crocodile.
Add the spraying of eight Waterfalls and get the superb experience.
In june the river is no very lively so have all time to enjoy the landscape view.
I will be back.
