Basco Lighthouse

Reviewed By tommomelbourne - Melbourne, Australia

We visited Basco Lighthouse during our North Batan Tour. The lighthouse is located in Naidi Hills and is a great backdrop to the lush green hills and sea.
The lighthouse was completed in 2003.
We walked up the circular stairs to the viewing platform which gave us great 360o views including that of the town of Basco.
Great spot to get some good photos.

Marlboro Hills

Reviewed By tommomelbourne - Melbourne, Australia

Marlboro Hills which we visited is also known as Rakuh-a-Payaman (wide pasture).
This is communal pastureland in the Barangay of Imjanjbu in Uyugan, in the south of Batan Island and is a stunning must see attraction.
This attraction has picturesque green undulating hills and where cattle, water buffalo, and horses roam freely. You will get a breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean, the Tayid Lighthouse, the rugged coastline below and the dormant volcano of Mount Iraya.
These are the google images one sees of Batanes and makes one want to visit and include on your bucket list.

Naidi Hills

Reviewed By tommomelbourne - Melbourne, Australia

Naidi Hill is very picturesque and is the location of first lighthouse of Batanes.
Naidi offers a panoramic view of Baluarte Bay, Basco town, Mount Iraya and the rolling hills of Batan Island. We obtained great 360o views by walking up the spiral stairs of the Basco Lighthouse.
This is also one of the best spots to view the sunset.
Historically it housed the country’s tallest wireless communications facility that connected Batanes with the government in Manila during WWII until its collapse from a Japanese forces bomb attack.
A must visit in Batanes.

Mahatao Tayid Lighthouse

Reviewed By tommomelbourne - Melbourne, Australia

We visited this lighthouse which is situated in Mahatao, Batanes and known as the MahataoTayid Lighthouse and was built in the early 2000s.
This lighthouse is privately owned and the lovely stone cottage next door is also owned by the same lighthouse owner. You are not allowed to venture on this property next door.
The lighthouse obviously serves as an indicator to boats of the risky waters of West Philippine Sea and Pacific Ocean. Weather conditions in Batanes can be quite harsh.
This hexagonal lighthouse stands on Batan Island and has the picture postcard views one imagines of Batanes. You will take some fantastic pictures at this location.
Nearby tourist attractions include the Chawa View Deck, Boat Shelter Port, San Carlos Borromeo Church and Rakuh-A-Payaman known as Marlbro Country.
Don't leave this place off your visited places.

Bisumi Tour & Services

Reviewed By leny524 - cebu city

It started okay, they were prompt in responding emails although the messages were limited and to me were incomplete. The tour, the guide Juliet and the patient driver JV were all worth the money and time. So many things you learn and experience in Batanes which you may not be able to do without their assistance. To them, I give a thumbs up.
What disappointed me and hubby was when we were on our way home and they promised the roundtrip airport transfer. We were told the day before our departure that they will pick us up from our hotel between 530am to 600am. No one came and when we tried to call the mobile number they used in contacting us there was never a reply. Already nervous and irritated at 630am ( our flight was 755am! )we decided with the help of our hotel to contact a tricyle to bring us to the airport. It is such a pity that because of this, our memories of the tour and their services are gravely affected.

Reviewed By musickaren - Mandaluyong, Philippines

amazing scenery you never thought existed in the Philippines. so peaceful. overflowing kindless and hospitality of the ivatans. good food. good weather. (yep but there are times that they receive the first blow of the thunderstorms because of their location). best to go there during summer.
There are 4 tours you can avail:
North Batan tour: short, 3hour, best to do this after lunch to end it with a sunset at the Naidi HIlls.
South Batan Tour: 5hours, more tourist spots, lotsa churches, lunch at Marlboro Hills, option to take a dip at the Homoron BLue Lagoon, option to add diura fishing village and Fountain of youth
Sabtang tour: needs a 30-minute faluwa ride to reach the island. amazing hills, land of the famous vakul, old stonehouses, lots of lobsters for lunch, unique tricycle, lighthouse has a homestay!
Itbayat tour: for the fearless! 2-2.5 hour faluwa ride crossing the pacific ocean and the west philippine sea. But it is sooo worth it!!! most activities requires trekking. pricey food since all supplies are from manila and basco and the transportation fee is paid per kilo.

Valugan Beach

Reviewed By tommomelbourne - Melbourne, Australia

Valugan in the Ivatan language means east. Its called Boulder Beach for obvious reasons. We really enjoyed our visit to this beach and its so photogenic.
Boulder Beach was created in 400 AD during a Mt. Iraya eruption and scattered around andesite rocks. The wind from the Pacific pushed the waves to lap the rough rocks, polishing it in the process. This was the process in the forming of Boulder Beach.
A must visit during the North Batan Tour.

Mt Iraya

Reviewed By mlgocon - Taytay, Philippines

I only went into the foothills of Mt. Iraya on a quest to find the Japanese Paradise Flycatcher. This is one of the few places on Batan that you can see it relatively easily, especially in March when they're breeding. The trail was difficult at times, though, as it ascends steeply in some spots. You really need a good guide. Two of my companions hiked to the summit and loved it.

Dipnaysupuan Japanese Tunnel

Reviewed By tommomelbourne - Melbourne, Australia

Dipnaysupuan Japanese tunnel is an interconnected network of various tunnels located in Tukon Hills, Batanes.
These tunnels served as a shelter for the Japanese forces during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines until the end of World War II.
During our tour we walked through and inside the collection of tunnels. Above the tunnels were air vents in the hills for ventilation. Surprisingly nearby were US buildings still intact.
Interesting part of Batanes history.
