The city of Bangor is perhaps most well known as the setting for many of Stephen King's stories, a reputation that has led to the nickname Transylmainia. There is more to Bangor than just tales of horror, however. There is a thriving arts scene, with museums, galleries, theaters, a symphony orchestra and a popular sidewalk art festival every summer. The area around Bangor includes the coastal Acadia National Park and the wooded Baxter State Park, providing plenty of outdoor adventure.

Museum dedicated to preserving and displaying Maine's land transportation equipment.
My husband and I spent several hours strolling thru this well presented piece of history. Alot of time, money and thought went into preserving an unbelievable amount of artifacts! We enjoyed taking a photo of us upon an old delivery vehicle. well worth the visit!!

Fantastic location as sun is setting. The hills and small ponds make it one of a kind. Large old grave markers and lots of Civil War participants and monuments.

If you hate rocks and gems, this might not be the Store for you. I would be interested to know how you came to find yourself in a store with a name like The Rock and Art Shop, though....
Anyone else, will find this place interesting as all get out. Huge selection of interesting looking polished rocks, stones, gems, etc Most have informative cards and signs detailing interesting facts about them.
Highly recommended, get the kids away from the chain toy stores and off the iPad for a couple hours and into this cool place.

PTC is committed to presenting high-quality, professional works of theatre that inspire the imagination and cultivate a lifelong passion for the art form.
Loved the play, enjoyed the new seats, very comfortable, the theater is clean and well cared for. We enjoyed our entire experience and look forward to our next visit.

Bangor City Forest is a beautiful setting within the city. I went after the height of the season. Lots of people walking their pets and or family's just walking around the improved loops. I happened to go a few days after a storm so interior trails were rough. I am sure they are beautiful to travel when cleared. Pay attention to maps through out the park to keep yourself focused to where you are. Bog boardwalk was closed for winter maintenance which saddened me but it was late season. I would definitely go again for outside recreation.

It was a couple of miles total, and burned some of the buffet's calories, on Sunday, August 6th, 2017 as we strolled the river's edge. The concert park was empty, but was a great spot and today's sun and breeze would make a perfect venue. There were lots of families enjoying the area, and we spotted a restaurant for dinner on the opposite side while listening to live music from one on our side. Great for an hour or so.

This mighty 31-foot statue of the "great tree-biter" towers over the landscape in Bangor's Bass Park.
Across the street from the casino in Bangor, I am from Minnesota so i guess not impressed with this Paul Bunyan, he was big and well kept but ours is better!!

Tis is a very nice, small casino right in downtown Bangor. The staff from the guard checking ids to the slot attendant, and players club personnel were great. Very clean facility and cool Hollywood atmosphere with pictures of stars all over the walls.

This pretty park is just down the street from downtown but manages to feel a little wild. There is a gazebo, waterfall, and pretty fountain. I'm pretty sure they do weddings here too, it's that pretty. Perfect for picnics or letting kids roam. Little kids enjoy splashing in the stream at the bottom of the waterfall, for older kids (elementary age) there is a path that goes up the side of the waterfall, but has no real safety features, so I don't recommend it for little kids. If you are visiting Downtown Bangor or the nearby hospital and need to get away from the crowds, this is the place. Good sized parking lot off the road, no entrance fee!

Three floors, eight major exhibits, daily educational programs, and Too Much Fun!
This is a great children's museum. It's not huge and "science-y" like Indianapolis or St Louis, but I like that it is unique and totally geared toward Maine. There's a whole area dedicated to waterways and animals, another dedicated to children's storybooks (ride in Burt Dow's boat! hang in in the Good Night Moon room!), another area where kids can load and unload a cargo ship. There's climbing, crawling, puppets, and more. The prices are reasonable and they do exchanges if you have have a membership to another children's museum. They do a lot of craft stuff here too. Teens are usually too cool to enjoy this, but if you're looking for a great place to learn and explore, or spend a cold or rainy day, this is it!
