We stayed at this place only a few hours for a family meal but it is worth saying that it is a wonderful place, very close to the city, and for this reason, very easy to reach at any free time to spend some hour relaxed in contact with the nature.

Well this is just great if you don't have a pool. We were on holiday in the area and this pool is wonderful especially if you have children. It is large and has several pools. This year they have added an upgraded area where sunbeds are more comfortable and pagodas are available to provide shade. Arrive early to get a good place as it is very busy. Look out for special offers.

whilst visiting family in Napoli we decided to visit this breath taking sanctuary. The drive up a long swerving road with the towering chestnut trees alongside the road was a delight. we reached the top of montevergine & the view of Avellino down bellow was Breathtaking. The colossal Church / Sanctuary just left me breathless. when my uncle told me the history of the Sanctuary & how my ancestors used to walk up or ride carts pulled by donkeys to reach this spiritual place i immediately felt a strong respect and spiritual connection to the place. The Painting of the Madonna left me in awe of a man being able to produce such beauty on a slab of pine wood.

The modern style winery? It is, moreover - built by Japanese architect. Stylish spaces, very unusual cellar with no side walls but pillars. Very interesting Taurasi and Piano di Montevergine Taurasi (both - Aglianico). Also white - Pietracalda (Fiano di Avellino), Cutizzi (Greco di Tufo) and Serrocielo (Falanghina).
But most important - they are very friendly. It was pleasure to talk to Carmela. Thanks for openness and hospitality!

Extremely informative, organized and well worth the money. Charming Giuseppe is an extremely well informed tour guide. His passion for his work and knowledge about a number of topics is clearly evident throughout the experience. In spite of the down pour the day was truly a memorable authentic experience. Our thanks to Carmine the truffle hunter and his amazing dogs, Argo& Fabbo. The hunt was followed by an amazing lunch at a world class restaurant, La Corte dei Filangieri in Candida Avellino.

Non mi è piaciuto molto perché è praticamente quasi tutto "nuovo". Comunque la posizione in cui si trova è davvero spettacolare: comoda la funicolare che lo collega a Mercogliano in una manciata di minuti.

Es ist eine freundliche gelle Kirche. Die Intarsien sind typisch für die Gegend. Der Mesner ist sehr freundlich und wollte uns gleich die Krypta zeigen.

Durante la settimana, ho assaggiato due tipi di dolci: uno con glassa al limone ed un altro con una crema che mi sembrava di sapore simile alle marshmallows ( vedi foto).
Per entrambi la farcitura era molto buona: sapori delicati e materie prime di qualità. Quello che non mi è piaciuto è stato che le basi erano piuttosto secche.
I prodotti erano freschissimi.

Saint Philomena is one of my family's favorite saints, so we knew we had to make the trip to her sanctuary when we visited Italy.
The sanctuary is located in a very small town about 1/2 hour outside of Naples. We took a taxi to get there so we wouldn't get lost. It was worth every penny of the trip. Our taxi driver - who had never been to the sanctuary - also paid a visit inside the church when he dropped us off - and expressed his admiration for the beauty of the shrine.
We made arrangements to stay at the monastery located in same building as the church prior to our trip. The staff were very helpful in providing us with directions and information concerning our stay. The stay includes meal options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We ate dinner and breakfast during our stay. Parishioners from the church cook and serve the meals for guests. They were very hospitable and provided excellent service. For dinner, we had homemade pasta with meat sauce, big crusty rolls, wilted salad with butter (yummy), a chicken cutlet, fruit and water. Breakfast consisted of homemade rolls, butter, jam, ham, provolone cheese, coffee, tea and milk.
We had the pleasure of attending 7:00 p.m. evening mass at the sanctuary, which was quite beautiful. The church lights were dimmed and it was quite an enchanting experience. We were served dinner immediately after mass.
The rooms were simple but clean and took care of all of our needs. We had a nice view of the town from our room and slept with the window open that night.
In the shrine itself lies the remains of St. Philomena encased in glass. Her bones are encased in a wax figure representing the likeness of the saint. A candle burns near the relics, and her holy oil is also present. In addition, a large vessel in front of her remains holds her blood. There are numerous beautiful statues and relics located throughout the church. It houses the first - and oldest - statue of St. Philomena which was ever created.
The hallways leading to the monastery, gift shop and rectory are abundant with images and statues of St. Philomena which I have never seen before. There is a very large statue of the saint located on a wall near the stair case which leads to the monastery. She is literally the first and last thing you see as you climb the stairs. The statue is gorgeous.
Monsignor Breschi was absolutely delightful to meet in person. He made us feel very welcome during our stay. He gave us a tour of the church and also gave us a special blessing when we departed from the sanctuary.
The sanctuary has a nice little gift shop that sells many handmade Catholic items and St. Philomena-themed medals, relics, holy oil and gift items. We purchased several items for gifts during our visit there.
The small town appeal of where this sanctuary is located is really wonderful. When we arrived on Sunday afternoon, there were several townspeople outside near the church playing cards and socializing. I got the feeling that this is a regular activity in town - just like you'd see in Mayberry on the old Television show.
As we left on Monday morning, we -along with many townspeople who gathered in the street - witnessed the beginning of a wedding taking place at the sanctuary. The loudspeakers from the church played "Ave Maria" and the music could be heard throughout the nearby streets. I thought it was wonderful how people came out of their homes as if wishing the bride and groom luck and support for their upcoming nuptials.
It was truly a beautiful experience visiting this sanctuary for so many reasons, and I look forward to visiting again one day.
