TEMPORARILY CLOSED until next winter ski season Located at the southern tip of the Rocky Mountains in Northern New Mexico, Taos Ski Valley is a world famous destination for riders and skiers of all ability levels. Taos is primarily know for its steeps but offers beginner & intermediate trails off the top of every single chair lift. For the advanced to expert skier/rider Taos offers some of the most challenging and varied terrain in the country, especially off its hike to ridges. The family vibe is also embodied in the quaint village of Taos Ski Valley. Not overdeveloped the resort offers a simple night life, lots of dining options, with everything in close proximity. If you are looking for more than skiing/riding check out the historic town of Taos just 18 miles down the road for a true vacation destination.
We visited Albuquerque and planned to take our kids snowboarding at Sandia Peak, but they had very little snow there. So, we decided to drive a couple hours north to Taos and enrolled our kids in snowboarding school. They loved it! Alastair was their instructor and she did a great job. There were only 4 kids in their group and they learned everything needed to be successful. The kids said it was pretty hard to get the hang of, but they did well. The resort is very nice and many the facilities at the resort are brand new. We highly recommend Taos for anyone wanting challenging trails and a fun time.

Far Flung Adventures has been safely outfitting family and group river trips for over 40 years. We have run commercial adventures on dozens of rivers around the country and the world. With that said, these days we like to concentrate our work here in New Mexico, because this is the land and the people we care most about. The northern region of New Mexico offers access to unprecedented southwestern scenery and landscapes, and there is hardly any better vehicle for exploring that beauty than via one of our two great river systems. We are located in Taos, NM which provides easy access to the finest New Mexico rivers. The best rafting in the region can be found on The Rio Grande at the bottom of a beautiful gorge, or on America's Newest Wild and Scenic River, the Rio Chama. The fun starts shortly after ski season, as the snow begins to melt, providing excellent river conditions during runoff and throughout the summer.
Great experience with Far Flung Adventures from quick response to inquiries several weeks before our trip to thoughtful accommodations. Will helped us select a great tour that included setting up a convenient meeting spot, transporting us to the "put in site" on the Rio Grande, and, with help from his partner, Hank, reviewing safety plans, fitting us with life jackets, and pushing off into the clear but swift running river just south of the Gorge. The sun shone brightly and Will took the oars steering us around the bends, banks, and over rare rocky shoals. We never got wet! Had a delicious lunch ashore. This team couldn't be nicer in deciding on the overall length of our day, putting in to use the "facilities" and answering all sorts of questions about the river, geology, ducks, fish, otters, trees, and history.
We ended our trip with a hot soak at Ojo Caliente in lithium, soda, and iron pools.

It was the 2nd weekend of May and a perfect time to visit the Iris Farm. I was delighted to read all the different names for the varieties of irises. If you are looking to add new irises to your flower garden, this is the place! Be sure to also browse the Gallery.

My wife and I were celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary. It was to be a surprise for my wife. She is hard to surprise as she goes through a 20 question routine. i pulled it off. I wanted Italian with a bit of a Mediterranean flair. Chris pulled it off. On the positive side, the shrimp appetizer was outstanding and my wife had fun preparing that dish. I had a great time learning how to prepare Risotto.
The beef prepared in their outside oven was amazing.
One part puzzled me and once I got use to it, it was very OK. You see the whole affair occurred in their home. Not a professional kitchen attached to their home, but their kitchen. Complete with 3 dogs, 2 cats and their son (who was a delight) running around. Boots, laundry... "stuff" everywhere completed the at home experience. Frankly that translated very well to me. What I learn needs to be transferable to home.
The one thing that could have made the experience more enjoyable would have been to have Chris's wife around more. If this is a home experience, why not have her around. When we arrived we had about a 1 hour getting to know you sort of chat without her. Valarie was not around and I wish she had been. As a couple and interacting with couples, that would have been better. I also think that a questionnaire sent out ahead of time identifying what we wanted to achieve out of this event, what some of out likes and dislikes were. A bit about us to stimulate conversation would have been good. While learning a bit about Chris and his back ground was good, I would have liked to hear more about his cooking and techniques and less about his "acting" past. That was interesting but I would have liked to know more about him and his love for food more....and maybe how he met his wife, etc, etc. The conversation grew a bit stilted after about 1 hour since Valarie was not there. Other than that, the food was great, the conversation was great and the "with family" environment was delightful. I learned beaucoup (much) and would highly recommend doing this in Taos.
One more thing, better signage to their place, especially if it is late.
Again, I would highly recommend this and I wish I could get folks together for them to teach here in El Paso.

This impressive museum has more than a dozen galleries with some 5000 pieces of Native American and Hispanic art, including furniture, weaving, paintings, pottery and a celebrated collection of Native American jewelry.
I had never heard of this woman before, but she put Native American art on the map in the U.S. What a collection! Gorgeous rugs, jewelry, pots, etc. This is all located in what used to be her home. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice gift store.

Located in the heart of Arroyo Seco, NM, Rottenstone Pottery features premier local ceramic artists, sculptors, painters and photographers.
I stayed in Taos for about 2 weeks and visited Arroyo Secco and found Rottenstone Pottery. I loved his pottery and that his studio is on-site. Best of all I came home with some awesome glass ware and have made them my permanent wine glasses. Every time I drink out of them I remember this place, the town and New Mexico - perfect!

Each of my full day custom photo tours will start around 10:00 am and run 8-9 hours (weather permitting). Half day tours are also available and run 4-5 hours. Each tour will begin and end at my studio in Taos. (To begin tours in Santa Fe I will charge a $30 fuel fee for the extra drive between Taos & Santa Fe). There are no specific photographic abilities required for these tours other than a general knowledge of the workings of your camera and wanting to go out have some fun. If needed I will be available to help you better understand the use of your camera. My intention with my tours is to show you the wonder and beauty of Northern New Mexico and have you go home with some images that you would want to hang on your wall. If you have some specific locations that you would like to visit, contact me for customized tours and pricing.
We had a great time with Steve and his friend, John (iPhone photographer), for the full day High Road to Taos tour. Steve is passionate about photography and is an excellent teacher and guide through the beautiful High/Low Road to Taos. We were able to...MoreThank you Sydney. It was pleasure to take both you and Mark around the area. I hope to see you both again on your next trip to the area. Steve.

Nice 2mi (one way) hike with a 1000ft elevation change (Williams Lake is at about 11,000ft asl). The trail is challenging over the first mile (lots of rubble and rocks) and does not give any view (all within the forest), but as closer you get to the lake, the trail and the vistas improve.
Ideal hike if you only half a day for hiking.

The Claireworks Gallery is located in the charming village of Arroyo Seco, New Mexico, a short drive from Taos, on the road to Taos Ski Valley. We have been part of the Arroyo Seco community for over fifteen years in the same location. Claire L. Haye is the owner and exclusive artist at Claireworks, and has been creating art for the last thirty years, and jewelry for the last twenty.
We found this shop in the tiny town of Arroyo Seco. The jewelry is original and beautiful, all designed by one artist who sells directly through this shop. The prices are very good because there is no middle-man. The sales person was very helpful, letting us try on a number of pieces. They sell online as well and ship with free postage. i will look them up come holiday time.
