The Fox City PAC is an amazing facility in the heart of downtown Appleton. For a town of its size, it rivals almost all other similar venues in the state. We have been there multiple times for plays, musicals, concerts and speakers. There is virtually no bad seat in the house and the staff is always friendly. Parking can be a bit tricky near the PAC but it's easy to park on a side street and walk over. Centrally located near restaurants and bars for a stop before or after. The offerings are better than almost all other state venues often getting national tours before other locations in the state. It is a great place to catch a show or a concert.

The Reserve has great wooden planked hiking trails in a beautiful woods and pond areas. It is also home to four or so white tail deer that blend right in with the wooded background. The trails are well maintained. The nature center has beautiful displays of local fauna and offers regular nature-related activities and workshops.

The Building for Kids Children's Museum's mission is to empower children, engage parents and energize communities. We accomplish our mission by providing specially designed exhibits, programs and events. Our goal is to inspire, teach and reinforce curiosity.
Our favorite storybook character visited the museum. They had coloring activities after the book reading. He loved every minute of it. He also loved playing in the 3 year old and under area. It's gated off so you don't have to worry about your little one running away from you. Great place for my almost 2 year old.

The official minerology and geology museum of the state of Wisconsin.
I've used that title before, because it fits several smaller gems we have in the area. This museum, though small, has an outstanding collection of gems and the geologic timeline of Wisconsin exhibit is well presented and laid out. Sure, it is heavy science at times and may be tough for pre-teens to absorb and appreciate, but so what! Take them anyway and give them the opportunity to listen to the knowledgeable and very well spoken guides this place has on staff. More that worth the nominal entrance fee and if you tie it on with a Planetarium visit, it's like a little bonus.

Don't keep passing this place by! Take the time, hear the stories, and appreciate your history Appleton! It's amazing for us to re-visit Wisconsin in the late 1800s, and even better for our children to see. Amazing craftsmanship, great tour guides, beautiful views - relive an era gone by and then, the next time you pass this building by the bridge you will look at it with an entirely different perspective.

Saw this place advertised on facebook. Clicked around on the pictures and my interest was peeked!. On a whim last minute we scheduled the sunset paddle. Then I got more intrigued by the lock system. They changed our reservation without hesitation. So our tour embarked on a picture perfect summer day. Before we knew it we were in the first lock hanging onto a rope as the lock lowered. We have taken several guided kayak tours throughout the state and the Appleton lock system was by far the neatest one. At each lock the lock tenders met us and handed us our rope for our gradual decent. Our tour guide pointed out local architecture along the rive. We saw a bald eagle close up and was not rushed as we took pictures. Oimur shuttle picked us up and loaded all the gear. If you are looking for a unique kayaking experience you MUST try the Appleton lock paddle. The cost is very reasonable.

One of the nation's preeminent liberal arts colleges and conservatories of music, Lawrence University, one of the "Colleges That Change Lives," draws students from nearly every state and more than 50 countries. Cultural attractions: conservatory concerts, art galleries, 21 varsity teams, and--believe it--great food.
We came to see the school with my so who is a rising senior. But it's without students right now so it's hard to get a feel for what it's really like. The Warch building is stunning with its locally sourced stone flags, materials, and energy (green roof, and solar power!). And other standout spots include the music building and the lovely chapel. I bet when the students are here there's a much better vibe though.

An excellent place to cross country ski, a great place to take a walk and be surrounded in nature yet is only a stones throw outside of Appleton. The only downside is that no dogs are allowed.
