Get wet - climb high - stay low, whatever you want, you can do it! Devon's top Active and Sporting Experience - Voted by Visit Devon. Skern Lodge Outdoor Activity Centre on the North Devon coast will give you a day or stay to remember, where adults and children alike will find fun, challenge, inspiration and laughter. Enjoy an outdoor activity programme to meet all of your needs, whether you are a family or a few friends after a holiday or day of outdoor activities, trying to find something to do during those long days during the school holidays or a parent after a safe, secure and energising summer camp where your children can meet individuals and discover new things.
We stayed for three nights and had a brilliant time. Andy W was our Course Director who took us on the Hartland Experience, kayaking on the Torridge and then a selection of on site experiences for an afternoon. He was brilliant with the 14 and 15-year fit and able teenagers as well as the slightly broken 47 and 50-year olds! Andy helped us all push our boundaries and try something new, quickly getting the measure of each of us so that he could work with us as a group and individuals. We stayed full board and were very happy with food - clear plates all round! Jimmy the chef was cheery and happy, making us feel welcome and providing great gluten-free options for our daughter. We had an issue with our lights on the first night and the team quickly got the issue sorted, making sure we knew what was happening at every turn. Basically we cannot recommended the team at Appledore highly enough and will be back at some point! Thank you for a fantastic end to our holiday.

There are records of a Town Band in Appledore a far back as the 1880s and records in the band possession show that from the turn of the century this was a Brass Band. It existed until the 1920s when lack of support and players caused it to be disbanded. The current band is the continuation of a Silver Band formed by Appledore Boys Brigade in 1942. The Band had humble beginnings starting with just four boys from the Boys Brigade who were inspired after they attended a display given by the 88th London Company who were camping in the area.Today the band is stronger than ever with over 40 members, a healthy training band and large group of loyal supporters. It supports local events as well as raises money through-out the year for charities and to continue the work it does helping children to read and play brass instruments.During summer the band can be found on Appledore Quay every Monday evening entertaining the tourists and the highlight of the year is always The Last Night of the Proms Concert over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The band has an active following and you can find out more about the band, see its upcoming engagements on its website and Facebook pages.
They are the best. Fun, quality musicians, fabulous location and not to be missed. Summer seasons are wonderful and the final bash is the last night at the proms, amazing!!!Get there soon!

My name is Jennie Lamb and I have been working with soft glass since 2009. My studio is in the UK on the coast in beautiful North Devon in the picturesque village of Appledore. I am open to the public throughout our summer season and visitors are welcome to come and watch me melt glass rods to create unique glass beads. I also give classes and taster sessions one to one by appointment. My passion is glass I love the three dimensional opportunities it offers in terms of design and my work is heavily influenced by the river estuary and the sea I live within a stones throw of if you are visiting our village do pop in and say hello!

Lovely concept of the artists working together to run this shop to display and sell their beautiful, original sculptures and artwork. Great to browse and find unique gifts for others or a gem for yourself. Good range of skills and crafts to suit most tastes. I particularly love the puffins. The detail is stunning.

We used the ferry to go from appledore to instow. Friendly volunteers and only took 5 minutes to cross. Gives you a chance to see the estuary from a different perspective and to explore the other side without needing to take car out. They allowed our two dogs on but due to nature of getting on/off a small boat take care if you or your dogs are less mobile. Would definitely recommend.

Due to Covid-19 the management committee has decided that the North Devon Maritime Museum will not open until at least Easter 2021. In the meantime the volunteers are busy improving and updating the displays We look forward to seeing you then!
Brilliant museum, lots of interesting bits, people were very friendly and welcoming! Would recommend anyone visiting the area to have a look around!
