Glacial Hills Pathway and Natural Area

Reviewed By debbybrzys - Bellaire, United States

Adjacent to the beautiful and friendly town of Bellaire. Our family visits weekly. I was intimidated by the trails several years ago since I can easily get "lost in the woods", yet they have been wonderfully marked and a map is available nearly every 1/2 mile or so. Miles and miles of paths to explore. I fell in love with Kensington Metropark and Island Lake State Recreation area in Milford and Brighton, Michigan more than 20 years ago. I thought I couldn't replace those places. I think I have.

Bee Well Mead & Cider

Our family has lived in the area between Clam Lake, Lake Bellaire, and Torch Lake for six generations. We have a special love of the area, and we want to bring you the flavor of this spectacular spot. Our honey comes from bees that travel to local orchards and farms, creating a flavor that truly represents Northern Michigan. We source our fruit as close to the meadery as possible by working with those same local farmers whose crops were pollinated by the bees. We have a long family history of bottling delicious drinks. Our great-great-grandpa Bailey bottled water from a natural spring on the banks of Clam Lake. This fantastic water was sold throughout the community. His building still stands across from our childhood home, and serves as a daily reminder to do grandpa proud.

Don’t expect much here. Very little public access or beach area. Mostly rocks. Still beautiful water to relax beside.

This place is awesome!!! The people are so friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to accommodate our family. Jack King, one of the owner’s sons, took us on a guided tour of the whole orchard. He is the best! We went July 21, 2020, and the cherries and raspberries were plentiful. They also have a very nice store where you can buy all things cherry! My kids loved the cherry soda!!! We also bought doughnuts that were to die for...fried fresh to order!!! Get them topped with cinnamon and sugar!

Walk of Art

Why anyone can rate this behind a distillery as the top thing to do in this beautiful town is beyond me. This huge waterfront park has acres of forest and footpaths, with outstanding sculptures at every turn in the trail. The kids in our life love it for the beach, the whimsical art, and the hide-and-seek opportunities on the maze of trails. It's free, fun, and big enough to be uncrowded even in midsummer. The sculptures are thoughtfully chosen by knowledgeable curators and somehow there's always something new to surprise us. Best of all, the experiences here get the whole family in conversation together. This gem of an attraction is truly unique and can take your vacation way beyond T-shirts, burgers, booze and souvenirs.

Torch Lake Cellars

Reviewed By 747ChrisH747 - Grand Rapids, United States

The views here are stunning! A truly must stop just to take it in.  They built a fantastic tasting room with lots of stone and polished wood put together in a regular style yet with artsy touches. They charge $6 for 6 tastes. Neither of us liked their wines, but their cider varieties are outstanding. Johnny Cider and Sangria being my two favorites. The only real issue is they are so small they can't bottle their ciders, so you have to drink it within 7 days from a howler before it goes bad. This prevents you from buying multiple varieties or even multiple of the same one for a later day. Hopefully everyone will find this gem and help it grow big enough to be able to bottle their ciders. The service was excellent. Overall a 5 star review. I would definitely return and make sure you check out the 2nd floor viewing area.

Road trip to Ethanology during our recent stay in the area. Looking to purchase some gear and libations we were enthusiastically greeted by the knowledgeable staff. Got an impromptu tour and history of the distillery. Plus a sample tasting before purchasing one of the ‘cocktail kits’. Love the Mel! Would love to come back post Covid to hang and enjoy!

Enjoy craft cocktails made with our locally produced spirits in a low-key lounge atmosphere and pick up bottles to take home. We also have frequent music and private event space.

Sarah, the bartender, was very knowledgeable about how Mammoth makes their liquors and obviously loves what she does & where she works. The aromas of the gin, rum, whiskey are rich and divine. The lavender infused gin has totally changed my mind about gin- tastes even better than it smells. And I thought Mammoth rum was thee best! Also the interior has been updated. The owner Chad & his designer wife Diane have made it look Very metro & classy with many areas of seating, that allows social distancing. I highly recommend Bellaire’s treasure - a stop at Mammoth!
