With more surviving 18th century buildings than any other city in the United States, visiting Annapolis is like stepping back in time to the days when the city was a colonial seaport. Known as America’s Sailing Capital, the city is located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and is a paradise for water lovers, famous for its crab cakes, lighthouses, and 500 miles of gorgeous shoreline. Tour the campus of the US Naval Academy, or the Maryland State House, the oldest state capitol still in use.

Established in 1845, this undergraduate college for the Navy prepares men and women to become professional officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
I really enjoyed our tour of the Naval Academy. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job. Both of her sons had graduated from the Academy and she was full of interesting stories.

Our small town isn’t perfect. What town is? But our small town has charm, history, art, boating, sports, dining, culture and some darn good bars. You are welcome in our town and you won’t be disappointed. Highlights include the State House, Naval Academy, Chick and Ruth’s Delly, the Paca House and one of the nation’s great music venues, The Ramshead. Special events abound. Check the calendar, come and enjoy.

The seat of government for the state of Maryland.
This is a beautiful facility. Our kids recognized everyone in the paintings. The architecture, decor and history is great. Annapolis, as a whole, is a beautiful city. Great walking city too.

We stepped into the church for a look around. It was interesting. The stained glass was quite nice. The space is not too ornate...nor as old as I expected given its prominent placement in this very hectic town.
It was worth the stop, but is not an imperative sight to see in town.

This garden is a perfect example of a pre-Revolutionary War garden.
Enjoyed this tour. Guide was very informative about the house and early life in colonial Maryland. Great restoration on the house. Nice gardens. Would have been better in the spring when garden was in full swing. Worth a visit anytime.

If you enjoy perusing boats who's owners want you to see them, you'll enjoy this huge slip at the bottom of Main Street in Annapolis.

The Hammond Harwood House is the Jewel of Annapolis, preserved intact since 1774. In addition to its magnificent, perfectly preserved architecture inside and out, this National Historic Landmark contains an outstanding collection of John Shaw furniture and Charles Willson Peale paintings.
The Hammond-Harwood House is one of the few houses in Annapolis that is original, not restored (something I did not know until I visited). There is a 50 minute tour that is led by a docent and is an excellent introduction to the house and to colonial and revolutionary life in Annapolis. We have toured historic houses in Annapolis and other colonial cities such as Charleston and Savannah, and this was one of the most interesting. Highly recommended.

My wife, two children and I went to mass at St. Mary's Church in Annapolis, Maryland in August 2017. The church is beautiful with high ceilings and various art work. The priest was from Vietnam and Quebec and was very moving. I recommend visiting this church during your stay in Annapolis.

Located overlooking the Severn River in Annapolis, it provides a beautiful, peaceful place for reflection and honoring of those who served their country during WW II.
TIP: There is a small parking lot behind the memorial and this site is visited on the Discover Annapolis 40-minute trolley tour.
