Derin is a master brewer. He makes several unique and delicious beers, but my favorite is the jalapeño flavored "Hot Shoe." Dogs are welcome on the back patio. They have live music or game nights a few times a month. Its a fun, laid-back place where women can relax - the exact opposite of a pick-up bar. If you want excellent craft beer and a relaxed family vibe this is your place!

Do not and I mean do not miss the gem of a winery!! It is a must do! They make the best Pinot Noir in Virginia that can more than compete with the great Pinot Noirs of the Russian River Valley in California and other West Coast regions. Pinot Noir is my favorite wine and I've been a member of the wine club for five years at my favorite California winery that specializes in Pinot Noir. Ankida Ridge more than stands on its own compared with the California Pinot. The quality is top notch. Quite frankly, it is in my top five favorite Virginia wineries. It is not a winery for those who like sugary, syrupy wines or wines that focus more on big events than wine. It is a winery where the focus is on quality wine and the lifestyle wine drinking offers. Everything about Ankida is perfect. It is in a remote, rural location, perfect to relax, breathe fresh mountain air and marvel over the spectacular view. The road to get there is windy and steep, but well worth it. Be aware though that your GPS may tell you that you are arriving but all you see are a creek and cattle gate. There is still about .30 miles left at that point, so keep going. The grounds are gorgeous with a pond, woods, and babbling creeks and brooks, while birds fill the air with song. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and clearly love what they do and love the wine. Ankida is perfection in a glass and a bottle.

This is remarkable story of the origin of my family and how a small tribe of Native Americans have endured being forgotten by history. If you come to Virginia this is a must see stop that includes how the Government eventually recognized the tribe and the challenges they face today.

Very cute little winery, the owner served us and explained the different wines and the local area as well. Wines are more on the dry side but really nice. Charcuterie box was cute and filled with some very nice cheeses, nuts, salami and chocolates. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

We had a hard time finding the place due to our online maps directions. We approached the building with it's whimsically painted front wall. The winery area is very small but we were the only ones there on this Sunday afternoon. It worked out to our advantage because our hostess spent alot of time with us talking/explaining the wines and we were able to enjoy our tastings at a very relaxed, slow pace. She was very knowledgeable and polite. We purchased 2 bottles of wine. We enjoyed their fruit wines - perfect for summer sangrias! Towards the end of our tasting, another couple walked in. Good timing as I don't know how the 4 of us could have fit at the counter. Our host encouraged us to walk around outdoors. Since it was not an ideal weather conditions to walk near the vineyards, we walked around their huge covered shelter area where outdoor casual events can be held and even looked around their indoor auditorium where they hold cow auctions.
