Come for a ride on the North of England’s double gold award winning narrow gauge railway winding from Alston into the South Tyne Valley in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our trains are hauled by steam, diesel or battery electric locos and all have a fascinating history. Both of our restored stations at Alston and Slaggyford house a café, ticket office and gift shop. At Alston you can explore our Discovery Centre and visit the viewing gallery above our engineering workshop. Most areas of the site are accessible and there are large car parks at Alston and Slaggyford.

The Hub is a superb attraction and well worth the visit. I wish I could say the same about Tripadvisor! What a total waste of space they are. They NEVER reply to emails.

St Augustine's is the parish church of Alston, in the Parish of Alston Moor. The building is open daily to visitors, and services are held here regularly. Interesting features include the Derwentwater Clock, the ornately carved Rood Screen and a fine organ.

I’ve been to Cow Green several times before and was looking forward to going again. However the weather was against me this time. With a wind chill of minus 7 and despite my layers I didn’t get as far as Cauldron Snout before I turned back to the safety of my car. Good boots essential as can be boggy and muddy. It’s well worth the walk to the dam in better weather.

The best preserved roman fort in the Roman Empire (Stewart Ainsworth, 2009) Set in huge North Pennines, circa 15 miles from Hadrians Wall, Epiacum is on "open access" land and has been untouched by intrusive archaeology. We have plans to develop full visitor facilities and interpretation in the near future and massive support for this vision. We organise events
Really enjoyed visiting this lovely site. Would probably have missed it without the trip advisor reviews. Well worth walking up to the interpretation board up on the hill for a good overall view (watch out for boggy bits in the ditches). Had a quick peek in the box by the car-park board - great props available for children's visits. Well done for looking after the site and caring about it.
