We had a girls weekend and did whitewater rafting, our guide Su was amazing! He went above and beyond to make our experience a great one. This is my third time with Carolina Outfitters and I am never disappointed with the service. They always exceed expectations!

Prince Boat Dock has the kindest, friendliest staff on lake Fontana! My husband and I visit the dock & lake on a regular basis and love it! If you visit the Prince Boat Dock you will not be disappointed and will want to return again and again!

Reservations and sign-in were all easy and no hassles. Took off from Bryson City, NC (delightful little downtown shopping/dining opportunities!) on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Wonderful train ride through picturesque Lake Fontana area to the Nantahala Gorge area. All depot staff comes out to wave us on our way! Special disembark off train to pick up by WildWater Ltd. Rafting Company staff. Short bus ride to put in spot on the Nantahala river. Rafts, guides (friendly/knowledgable), safety vests & paddles all waiting for us. Exciting yet family-friendly level river run about 8 miles through up to Class II waters and perhaps one Class III (Nantahala Falls) run. Put out at the Nantahala Outdoor Center complex. Bus ride to WildWater headquarters for showers & lunch, then bus ride back to Bryson City train depot.

You can walk through the train museum before and after your train ride. There are lots of displays for train enthusiasts and just a tourist along for a train ride. It was interesting, so you can make it as short or as long a look as you want. It was a good way to end a day devoted to the train trip and a fun time.

When folks visit and are wanting a trout dinner...we always take them to our favorite fish "market"...Otter Creek Trout Farm! It's such a great experience for kids of all ages to catch their own trout, take it home and cook it up fresh. The owners, Alex and his wife are great hosts and make this experience so much fun! They will do all the cleaning and filleting too. We always come home with beautiful trout fillets that will melt in your mouth, and the experience makes such great memories for family and friends. Definitely Go to Otter Creek when you're in our neck of the woods!

Located in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Nantahala Brewing artfully brews award-winning craft beer made with fresh hops, whole grains and clean, crisp Great Smoky Mountain water, from one of the purest, protected watersheds on the planet. The brewery features a large Taproom with over 32 taps. Children (under adult supervision) and dogs (on a leash) are welcome. Our hours vary by season. For more details visit our website.
This is what I consider the perfect brewery. They always have a large selection of beers, including some new ones and innovative ones. It is really a tasting room. You can bring food in, if you want. We have friends with young kids, and we had a great time with them.

In the middle of a Valley this small town gallery and "Old School" is a unique way to see local artists ware. We happened to be there during the Spring Bluegrass Festival which turned out to be a small town gathering of talented local mountain musicians who belted out their versions of local bluegrass and showed their roots in music history of America. Very nice day and we will go again!

Mason's Sapphire Mine is an all-natural, dig your own sapphire mine that has been in operation since 1942 in Franklin NC. We also offer enriched buckets so everyone can find something to love! Masons mine is a safe, fun, and unique experience to add to your family trip!
I was not so impressed with this mine. Granted, you never know what you are going to get but with four of us and all the times we went back to dig for more dirt, you’d think you would find something since I heard such...MoreThank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear that your group didn't find anything. Being that it is a native mine there is never a guarantee of finding stones. We hope in the future you will give the mine another chance.

As many have said before the falls are very small for the amount of effort required to get to them. We intended to view all three but were disappointed after two, so we went home. Great park though if you want to picnic and raft down the river.

A 52-mile rail journey through valleys, inside winding tunnels and across spectacular gorges of the Great Smoky Mountains.
We pulled out of the station riding in 1st class. It was fancy with a beautiful ceiling and large windows. As we chugged off into the sunset different reps from the local brewing companies gave 3 different 4oz samples of local craft beer. I’m not a drinker so I can’t comment much about this but all others seemed to love it. You can order these by the bottle for a price. You can have all the soft drinks, coffee or tea you’d like. A meal was served of a BBQ sandwich, 2 pork country style ribs, a chicken leg, baked beans and slaw. Dessert was apple cobbler. The food was pretty good. The dessert wasn’t homemade but decent. This was a good experience and I would like to take a longer ride in the future. This lasted about 2 hours. The service was excellent and a history lesson was woven into this experience.
