MARQ Museo Arqueologico de Alicante

MARQ is an archaeology museum which is dedicated to displaying its collection in a traditional way; as a collection of classified and catalogued finds. MARQ is a project faced with the challenge of being the first archaeological museum of the 21st century.

Reviewed By Photofanatic7 - Cheltenham, United Kingdom

Known as the MARQ this very modern museum displays many archeological artefacts in different, themed areas. From prehistory to contemporary there are many audio-visual and interactive displays with plenty of space to move round so that everyone can see everything. The lighting is (deliberately) dim which lends something to the atmosphere. Hang on to your little ones if you take them because I think they could easily get lost in this museum. There is an entry fee but it was only €1.50 each. Be aware that, like most museums in Spain, it's closed on Mondays.

With the Marq castillo tram stop being right next to our hotel this was a great way to get into the heart of the resort. Luceros being only 2 stops away leaving you with a idyllic walk down the Avenida de Federico soto to the marina .We also used the tram for a return trip to Benidorm only 8 euros return and this service runs every half hour .This is a great way to see the coastline and only takes 1 hour 10 minutes .The trams can get quite busy and you may find yourself standing up for some of the jouney as the service is popular with locals .

Alicante's most fascinating part of the old town, with well preserved traditional architecture, full of coloured flowers, lively people, a few terraces. Feeling of real Spain, whenever in time ... Lived there for a week in an airbnb holiday home and could have been there happily in many more weeks.
