This is a beautifully laid out tree climbing/ high wire adventure course. I visited with 4 children aged 8-13 and they had a blast. The courses radiate out from a central, massive oak tree and include 4 different difficulty levels (green, blue, red and black)and two course lengths (short and long) and include zip lines for every level or course. The instructors are helpful, friendly, and reassuring. The carabiner system used is very secure and once you get into it becomes second nature. Basically there is no way to totally unclip yourself from the wires once you are clipped on so very safe. The setting is gorgeous: an established leafy hillside in the dandenongs just adjacent Puffing Billy station, but with very little outside noise. It feels a bit like Lothlorien! The two hour slots are probably not enough to do all the courses, so if you really want to challenge yourself go for four. Also BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE- we tried to book in the school holidays and had only a 9am slot on Sunday available, and with a hour drive from Brunswick that was an early start for a Sunday!

Healesville Sanctuary, in the heart of the Yarra Valley, is world-renowned as the best place to see Australian wildlife in their natural habitat. Set in a beautiful natural environment, the Sanctuary offers a place for people and animals to reconnect with nature from creek to canopy, and plays a critical role in saving some of the world's most endangered animals. The expert team shares the journey of animal rescue, rehabilitation and release with the Sanctuary's visitors. Don't miss: Spirits of the Sky: A free flight presentation featuring Australian raptors such as the Wedge Tailed Eagle, and colourful parrot species. Tales from Platypus Creek: Come face-to-face with Healesville Sanctuary's most iconic species in a world-first interactive Platypus show. Observe Platypus as they interact with keepers, play in the water and even enjoy having their tummies tickled! Wade with the Platypus: In this world-first, hands-on experience it will be your turn to be the Platypus keeper. You will have the opportunity to step into the shallow water of the 'Platypus play pool' where it's normally the keeper's job to play, frolic, tickle and feed our little furry friends.
The sanctuary is outstanding and brilliant, staff are lovely and passionate, they have an animal hospital there too, saw a koala being cared for, they have dinosaur exhibition until April 2021, fantastic!!

PUFFING BILLY OPERATES DAILY (except Christmas Day). Puffing Billy is Australia’s favourite steam train and one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world. This century-old steam train continues to run on its original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook in the magnificent Dandenong Ranges 40kms east of Melbourne. Puffing Billy was built to serve at the turn of the century and is a genuine relic of our more leisurely days. The Railway is the major survivor of four experimental lines used to develop rural areas in the early 1900s. Puffing Billy Railway is now a major tourist attraction and operates every day except Christmas Day, thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 600 dedicated volunteers.

Well worth the climb and the down hill is great. I did this ride on the return cycle from Lilydale to Warburton, total 90ks. Amazing scenery, I’d class this as an easy ride, the only step part is the climb to the Aqueduct section. Highly recommend to future cyclists...

We were driving to the summit of Mt Donna Bueng and stopped halfway up for the tree boardwalk , absolutely spectacular with all round views of the forest ,with some of the enormous trees and tree ferns . Fairly easy walking on the metal boardwalk , just wish I could have been able to identify some of the leviathans growing here in this temperate forest haven.

Lillydale Lake is open at all times and has a range of facilities and activities to suit everyone, including an all-abilities playground, outdoor fitness station, walking tracks, wetlands, fishing jetties, BBQ's, picnic shelters, sandy beach areas and public toilets. Come along and have a picnic or barbecue, take a walk around the 28 hectare lake, or watch your children enjoy the sandy beaches and expansive lawns. Entry is free.
As you may have noticed, the township of Lilydale and Lillydale Lake have different spelling. I grew up here and went to the local high school and there was always some conjecture of the different spelling we'd see around. The Lake wasn't build then, but it's interesting that they've retained the original spelling of the former Lillydale Shire. The lake is artificial and has a number of wetland areas around it including to the south at Bellbird Park as well as the Olinda Creek Wetlands (Hull Road Wetlands). The park itself is over 100 hectares and within the boundary has multiple facilities available. The vastness of the open grassy area is immediately attractive and you'll find picnic groups on the weekend here kicking a football, soccer ball or invested in a game of cricket. Many people come here to walk the 10kms + as there are a number of paths around the 28 hectare lake. Make your way to the 400+ metre long dam wall. Interesting. Also there are the ruins of the Cashin's four mill still standing at the northern end of the dam, dating back to the 1850's. The facilities include a community room, a massive all-abilities, playground that should keep any curious child happy, fitness stations, toilet facilities, barbecues and plenty of picnic tables, chairs and rubbish bins. Plenty and I mean plenty of parking available. Just obey the signs. For those people into non-powered boating, there is a boat launching ramp as well. Note that there is a maximum of 4.5m length with a keel depth of up to 1m permitted on the Lake. Fishing jetty is a nice addition. Plus there are a couple of quite generous sized sandy beaches that are a lovely spot by the water for resting, relaxing or playing. On the weekend I was visiting, there was one food vendor vendor selling baked potatoes. Dog owners are welcome with two areas you can have your dog off leash. Just please pick up the poop. Lillydale Lake is open 24/7 and it's a great chance to enjoy this beautiful facility that is surrounded by many native Australian plants and shrubs.
