We live in Germany and visit many castles but don't always pay for the tour. We were on our way from Quedlingburg to Braunschweig and stopped here to tour the castle and for a walk through town. The castle is beautiful inside and out and it was nice that we could walk through at our own pace. I appreciated that some of the information was in English but would have liked more. I was confused by the signs directing us to the toilets which are NOT inside the castle. Walk pass the two tour entries to find the toilet.

Would recommend the walk from Thale to Treseburg about 3 hours. Beautiful scenery - waterfalls, rockpools, tree tops, mountains and valleys and high views. No scrambling and down rocks, easy to follow. The place for a beer at the end in Treseburg is up on the hill as you enter. It was excellent. Food and prices were great. We were tempted to stay for dinner but had other plans. You can catch the bus back from Tresesburg to Thale on the free Harz tourist ticket. All in all a great day.

Nice surprise small park and together you can go to the city park as well. You can perfectly spend a half day there. The miniatures are well made and it is fun to see the place you have been in the Harz area or the place you are going to visit.
