I struggled to find any good information on a demanding day hike from the cruise port up to Point Sublime at the top of Mont Faron. I did read that you must not follow Google maps as it leaves you at the end of dead end path looking up at a sheer rock face! So we kind of followed the road and the following notes give you a safe tarmac road based route with a reasonable amount of shade as you wind up the Western side of the mountain. Cars do pass but not in any large numbers. It will get you to the viewing point in about 2.5hrs. We then came down on the cable car (€5 one way) and walked the 35mins back to the cruise port. The whole round trip took us 5.5 hours including a coffee stop (€2 each) at the cafe next to the cable car. Leave the cruise ship, put the “Zenith Omega” into your maps app. I think it’s a conference centre. It’s doesn’t matter how you walk there as it will take you though a tunnel under the railway. Once on the other side of the railway with the Zenith Omega in front of you, turn left and walk to Boulevard Bianchi, which is the start of a steep climbing road that changes name to Boulevard Emile Jacquemin. At the junction with Chenin du Fort Rouge turn right and then it’s all up hill on a one way road (cars going up only) into Route du Faron until you reach the cable car (Telepherique du Mont Faron). Staying on the road, keep walking past this to the zoo and then past that towards the Point Sublime. You will see a path with a barrier and no entry sign (for cars) on the right which you walk along for about 15 mins. The sign says 25 mins which is not true. The viewing point at the cross gives a wide open view of the harbour, the town and the mountain. It’s impressive. Then walk back to the cable car, take it down to the edge of town and it’s a 35 min stroll back to your ship through the old town. Overall 12 miles or 19 km and about 24,500 steps. Enjoy.

The good things first: + taking the Téléphérique is great fun and not very costly (4 adults for approx. 30€, two way tickets) + the mountain offers a great view on Toulon; it is not getting any better + there are nice options to take a short walk + other things to visit: chapelle Notre-Dame, military memorial, panoramic platform, zoo What could be better: - restaurants on top of the mountains are tourist traps; better bring your water and save your money

So much to see in this marvellous museum I had to go back a second time to see it all. Lots of extraordinary, traditional exhibits with meaningful explanations provided by the multilingual information devices. Very pleasant atmosphere and extremely educational and informative. The gift shop is small but has some lovely pieces - reasonably priced.

We were in Toulon for the day and this was a must-do trip for us. We bought reduced tickets at the Office de Tourisme and were in place for the trip in very good time. We sat at the front and it was just an excellent. We forgot to ask if there was a commentary in English, but I speak French, so it was not too much of a disadvantage, although there is a lot of technical language used, naturally. It was very exciting seeing all the French Navy boats - especially the aircraft carrier ‘Charles de Gaulle’ and the nuclear submarines in their sheds, along with destroyers and patrol boats. The tour visited all the harbour inlets and was very comprehensive. We were aboard about 75 minutes and I would thoroughly recommend this trip.

This stadium seating about 14,000 is home to Toulon and one of the great stadiums to visit. While not in the realm of Stade de France, the atmosphere is unique and with 3 or 4 international players in the squad, is worth watching

Situé dans un cadre avec une vue extraordinaire, le Mémorial s'intègre dans un monument historique dédié au débarquement de Provence lors de la 2ème guerre mondiale.
We had no idea of the Provenance Landings which seem to have been overshadowed by the Normandy equivalent in history. This museum was really well presented walking you through the history of WW2 and the role that allied forces and especially the French had in liberating the south of the country. To get to the museum we took a cable car which offered outstanding views of Toulon and the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. A really excellent visit that I would highly recommend.
