If you enjoy nature hikes and beautiful cascades of water then I highly reccomend adding a visit to Ryuuku Falls. Most pictures do not actually do it justice as it is much taller than it appears on film. The hike through the thick Japanese forest is also quite breathtaking and not overly difficult.

Decided to take a detour here today as it was too foggy to see the Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji, Kammangafuchi Gorge is a good place to relax and enjoy nature. Kammangafuchi Gorge is about a 20mins walk from the shrines and while enjoying the walk by the river, you’ll definitely see the main highlight of the area which are the rows of Jizo statues that are line up on one side of the gorge. Worth visiting the area after visiting the shrines.

Hunter Mountain is close to the city center and is a great ski resort for day trips. As there is free shuttle bus from Nasu-Shiobara Station, access is convenient. The 12 course 3,000 meter downhill is for beginners and advanced users. Kids Park is also well-developed, and children can also enjoy it. In summer, you can watch about 4 million rings of about 50 species spread over one side. In autumn you can enjoy a large panorama from the fall foliage gondola.
