Porto Selvaggio

If you are this deep in the south, you already are immersed in the magnificent coastline and communities that shape and dot the landscape. When i say deep, i mean on the Salento Peninsula, the heel of the Italian boot, where this shelving limestone cove is dominated by a 16th-Century watchtower at the end of Puglia’s finest beaches. Its name means “ wild harbour”, so while the femme and i were doing excursions around the feral rock-strewn bay, serenaded by the rustling wind in the umbrella pines. We paused frequently for a plung into the cold water and to chew on delectable we brought with us for a bite. The bay’s rocky platforms are perfect to launch yourself into the briny.

Togo Bay Beach

Located in the beautiful place called Salento, among sandy paths and untouched nature, Togo Bay is an oasis of emotions between the dunes and the sea to enjoy the sun and the beach in perfect relaxation.

Togo Beach is a magical, whimsical place. It's strange because just when you think you've reached paradise just by being at the splendid ionian coast of Puglia, you discover that Togo Beach is a paradise within a paradise. So let me get all the essentials out of the way. The beach is superbly clean, the water is crystal clear (almost puts the Caribbean to shame), and the beach facilities are comfortable, high-end, and above-all COVID ready 100 percent. But what may not be stated enough or come across in all the other reviews is how amazing the service is. You order lunch and drinks? They are there in less than ten minutes. And not because the food is not fresh, it was and also delicious and healthy. The amazing staff of Togo bay have one thing in mind, and they execute it with strategic focus: that you have a good time, and leave wanting to come back. There is no loud overpowering music here. But sophisticated, beach vibes played at just the right time. There are no obnoxious party animals, but everyone seems to be at the party of their lives. And a nice mix of Italian and international guests. As well as a nice mix of families, young adults, and beyond. Now, I judge a place not by when things are going well, but when there is a glitch. One one of the days we were there, we arrived later than the designated hold time for your beach reservations, and they had rightly given it away. But even though they were booked to capacity, they did not let us walk away and managed to create something for us. And finally, when we were half way back home form Puglia, they called to say I had forgotten my ID at reception. Any ordinary place would have posted it back. But because this is TOGO bay, they couriered it and it was in my mail box the next day I was back home. Thank you Togo Bay for a wonderful post-lockdown beach holiday. See you in 2021!

We loved this fascinating private museum near the Biagio Gate. Layers of history hidden below an old Lecce house, discovered by the owners by accident. The owner's son was very helpful and friendly, explaining how they uncovered the layers, going right back to Roman times. Well worth a visit, and a great view from the Templar watchtower at the top of the house.
