Awesome location. Golden beaches, stunning massive cliffs, lifting sharply from the sea. Takes your breath away - an amazing area to visit.

Visited the desert with our great guide Abdul. Surfed the dunes in a Land Cruiser before enjoying dates & coffee in a native Bedoin camp. All in all it was an inspiring day, very informative & a great way to see Oman.

I went there first in the morning after leaving from Sur. The road is easy to find (use maps.me) and gets exciting the more you drive into the valley. At some point I would strongly recommend a 4WD car, as it gets very steep and narrow and if the ground is wet you cannot continue with a standard car. You need some good nerves sometime, don't give up! You will end in a small village where children play around and offer you guidance to the pools. Basically you walk down to through hundreds of terraces where they plant all sort of stuff (also bananas) and will then find very big rocks with great blue watered pools in between. I was alone there and could enjoy swimming and making pictures. The water is not too cold, around 22° (in December).

The Daymaniyat are made up of several islands, it is an easy trip taking a boat out (roughly 40 min boat ride), once you get there, it is peace and quiet. The water is beautiful, lots of coral and sea life.

It's a really unique and beautiful pool formationq in a gorge with turquoise water. You have to walk 2 - 3 meters through a muddy path so don't bring your best shoes. The pools where you can swim are wonderful. A must if you are in Oman!

Mocha City
They have been doing a lot of work on the city to give a good impression of what the city used to be like. Add that to the spectacular views of Wadi Darbat and the ocean, and it makes this a must see in the Salalah area. There are also a couple of small museums. The amount of signage is lacking on the roads to the city and the second museum so that could be improved, but our GPS helped us make the right turns the first time.

...as the varying art and artefacts on show there are even better than the main part. I particularly liked the modern art, wonderful photography and architectural recreations in those parts.

A quiet spot, 20KM off the main road, this picnic location has some breathtaking views. There's a simple restaurant, several park benches, and toilets. It's possible to walk over the top of the dam for a part of the distance and get views of the valleys below. Excellent choice for a weekend lunch picnic.

Within an easy and scenic drive of Muscat Wadi Al Arbeieen provides the perfect balance between a picturesque walk, great place to swim and jump/dive off rocks and wonderful drive through a 10 km canyon to the coast. Well worth shortlisting on any visit to Oman and Muscat. Its also en-route to the Bimmah Sinkhole
