Wadi Tiwi

Reviewed By Airman_blue1 - Vienna, Austria

I went there first in the morning after leaving from Sur. The road is easy to find (use maps.me) and gets exciting the more you drive into the valley. At some point I would strongly recommend a 4WD car, as it gets very steep and narrow and if the ground is wet you cannot continue with a standard car. You need some good nerves sometime, don't give up! You will end in a small village where children play around and offer you guidance to the pools. Basically you walk down to through hundreds of terraces where they plant all sort of stuff (also bananas) and will then find very big rocks with great blue watered pools in between. I was alone there and could enjoy swimming and making pictures. The water is not too cold, around 22° (in December).

It's a really unique and beautiful pool formationq in a gorge with turquoise water. You have to walk 2 - 3 meters through a muddy path so don't bring your best shoes. The pools where you can swim are wonderful. A must if you are in Oman!

They have been doing a lot of work on the city to give a good impression of what the city used to be like. Add that to the spectacular views of Wadi Darbat and the ocean, and it makes this a must see in the Salalah area. There are also a couple of small museums. The amount of signage is lacking on the roads to the city and the second museum so that could be improved, but our GPS helped us make the right turns the first time.
