Derry (/ˈdɛri/), officially Londonderry (/ˈlʌndənˌdɛri/), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The name Derry is an anglicisation of the Old Irish name Daire (modern Irish: Doire) meaning "oak grove". In 1613, the city was granted a Royal Charter by King James I and gained the "London" prefix to reflect the funding of its construction by the London guilds. While the city is more usually known colloquially as Derry, Londonderry is also commonly used and remains the legal name.

The Visitor Information Center is staffed by helpful and friendly people. In particular, the Center is the starting point for the fascinating Martin McCrossan Walking Tour of the Walled City, a history-oriented tour that I highly recommend.

Our family of four spent a wonderful week in Ireland and Northern Ireland in early September as part of a cultural tour from Delectable Destinations. Red Walker and ECS Travel were a huge part of what made this trip so outstanding. Informative...professional...safety first...Red became an integral part of our tour from Dublin to Rathmullan, Donegal, Slieve League, Fanad Peninsula, Derry, Giants Causeway, and over to Belfast. And when one of Red's passenger vans had mechanical issues, he and his wife Deirdre showed up with two vehicles to get us around! We all learned so much from both Red and Deirdre and felt like they became instant friends. This was simply the best way to tour the Emerald Isle!!

The museum is very interesting and outstandingly good value. Take time to watch he 15 min film at the end as it bought everything together and was very informative. The free exhibition at the start is good too.

This was our second year here for new years day. A party of 30 of us we were able to pre book bowling which was excellent. Staff are amazing. Run off their feet but very fast and attentive. Food and drinks are unreal and great value for money. Will be back next year. Thanks
