The Historic Stranahan House Museum is the City's oldest surviving structure. The story of the Stranahan House is the story of a family, a house, and a city. The Stranahan House was built in 1901 by Frank Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale's founding father, and his wife Ivy Cromartie Stranahan, the area's first school teacher. The house has served as a trading post, post office, community center, town hall and home to the Stranahans. The Stranahan House has stood at the center of Fort Lauderdales growth since it was built and played a significant role in the economic and social life of this community. Open daily for guided House tours at 1, 2, and 3pm. Special events, weddings, and holiday programs.
My girlfriend, mother, brother, and I enjoyed the tour of this incredible slice of Florida history right in the middle of now downtown Fort Lauderdale. A great place to rent for a wedding or occasion. Charming... takes you back in time.

Walk through tropical, flowering gardens in six giant screened aviaries filled with twenty thousand LIVE exotic butterflies and the world's most amazing birds. Hand feed the small parrots in the Lorikeet Encounter! Botanical Gardens, Macaw Landing, Butterfly Museum, Live Bug Zoo, outdoor cafes, gift shop and garden center. This is the perfect adventure for the whole family! Gift Shop and Garden Center are open to the public!
Butterfly World offers an immersion in nature as thousands of colorful butterflies dash and flit and alight around in a lush tropical setting. We found these gentle encounters mesmerizing - unlike those very few reviewers who reported being able to walk through the place in 10 minutes. If getting to the other side is your life mission, you will miss the point of being there. We found the informative botanical exhibits absorbing and enjoyed the flower gardens, aviaries (from finches to macaws), museum exhibits of butterflies and moths and gift shop. The staff is courteous, friendly and open to questions. We especially appreciated the educational and science missions of Butterfly World. If you factor these critical missions into the admission price, it is a bargain and one of Florida’s most memorable attractions.

Located near the Everglades, this park provides elevation and scenic beauty - perfect for bikers.
Very nice park with lots of things to do. Butterfly walk, camping, playground, walking, biking, shooting range, remote control air field, picnic. Of course it is loud compared to the mountains or out in the country - its right near the highway - and there is a shooting range off to one end. Duh...Its not out in the middle of nowhere - so for those that give it a bad review because of noise - what did you expect considering the location?

Smack in the middle of the city is this 180-acre park, which offers a respite from city life with picnicking, camping, swimming and canoeing and a chance to tour the home of the generous man who donated his lovely estate to Florida.
We love this park so much! It is located across the street from the beach on A1A with a little underground tunnel to take you there if you like. Entrance fee is worth it's weight in gold, you can park all day for $6. Walk the 2 mile loop and experience the intracoastal, bike it around the loop, enjoy the nature trails, rent a kayak, have a drink or a snack at Park & Ocean, sometimes they have live music as well. We love this place!

The flamingos at Flamingo Gardens are a great attraction; however, there is much more to enjoy at this lovely oasis. One should take a tram ride around the property at some point during his or her visit. Our driver and guide was very knowledgeable. The grounds are just beautiful and there is more to see than one realizes. A variety of birds live at Flamingo Gardens in different areas. Peacocks stroll around and sit on the branches of a massive tree. There are playful otters in a fun playground-type habitat, a black bear, cats, turtles, alligators, and birds of prey. This is a great place for families to spend part of a day and enjoy nature.

We stayed here as a launching point to see Miami. Note that the campground and day park are at 900 N Flamingo and you have to drive past the special events field and the concert green (both on your right before entering the campground. Lots of manicured space between sites and a number of sites with water views. There are a couple gators, but they kept to themselves. Full hookups and a laundromat with many machines. A definite place to go!

Excellent extensive park with large beautiful lake. Quiet waters has it all. There are picnic areas, campgrounds, walking trails through nature preserves. a children's' park area, boating and water activities. A total escape just blocks from highway and urban sprawl, No charge to enter except on weekends and now they are free as well. During normal times there are frequent community activities including an annual Renaissance Fare, antique auto shows and more. Highlight of North Broward county.
