Salmon River Recreation offers guided whitewater and scenic rafting, as well as guided salmon and steelhead fishing trips. We are permitted to guide along the Upper Main Salmon River. The town of Salmon, Idaho, elevation 3944 feet, is located in the Lemhi River valley. Sacagawea, the daughter of a Shoshone chief, was born circa 1788 in what today is knows as Lemhi County. The area has a rich historical past, including this famous tale of her capture at age 12 and eventual return to her family. The Salmon river is known for being the longest free-flowing river in the lower 48 states, undamned, wild, and scenic for 425 miles! The Salmon River is also notorious among the expedition of Lewis and Clark, where they were forced to turn around and plan a land route after finding it impossible to travel down “The River of No Return.” Book your Salmon River Recreation adventure today!

We traveled most of this route when we landed in Missoula and drove down to Salmon, ID. It starts at the border to Idaho (Lost Trial Pass area). Stunning views of the mountains/valleys and the Salmon River, loads of wildlife. We traveled the rest of the route later in the week when we drove to ghost towns - Bayhorse, Bonanza, and Custer. The views were exceptional.

The first 1/4 mile of the hike is pretty difficult, as is probably the last 1/4-1/3 mile. The rest is easy walking. Bring water, especially on hot days. We went early morning, and it was pretty warm. Friendly people, and a really great soak. Will visit again.
