Mas Baux

We are a small, fully-operational vineyard in the south of France practicing organic growing, cultivation, harvesting and production methods. Our winemaker, Serge Baux, is a man of passion whose philosophy is rooted in a respect for nature. Only a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean, mid-way between Perpignan and Canet along the ancient Roman VIA DOMITIA (containing the oldest vineyards of the Mediterranean countries), the Baux estate is spread out over 20 hectares, 12 of which are planted with vines in full production. A completely restored 18th century Catalan Mas houses the vinification, aging and bottling processes. We are also lucky to have a unique terroir, found in very few other places in the world, covered in naturally-formed round stones sitting on a clay bedrock, and we boast strictly manual green harvests with highly-selective hand-sorting of our grapes, producing exceptionally high-quality wines.

Fort Liberia

Reviewed By AlbertSalichs - Manresa, Spain

Fort Liberia is one of the Vauban Fortress located in the upper part of Villefranche-de-Conflent, in Conflent Region, in the South of France. It was built after Pyrenees Treaty (17th Century). Nowadays you can visit this fortress. In fact, you go up with a 4*4 (or by walk) and you can go down by 4*4 again or go down the stairs. My 4 years old daughter and I tried this last option and it was very funny. In the fortress, you can go up to the ramparts and see wonderful views of the town and mountains. Great! also, it is possible learn about the life in this place during the last centuries. Very interesting. Abbaye Saint Martin du Canigou

On an eagle's nest in the heart of the Massif du Canigou, the former Benedictine Abbey of St. Martin's discretely overhangs the valley since the XI century. A unique site just waiting to be discovered by the delighted rambler, with ist bell tower, marble capitals, the vaulted abbey-church and crypt... A jewel of early Romanesque architecture typical of this region.

The walk up to this Abbey, perched on the top of a mountain, is fantastic (about 40 mins, bring walking shoes). The kids (aged 4 and 6) enjoyed it too. The Abbey is a great reward at the end, the guided tour (in French) is very well done and interesting (even for young children), and there are views of the mountains from all around the Abbey.

Gorges de Galamus

Reviewed By guillaumepremier

The gorge is impressive. The most scenic part is located between the villages Cubières-sur-Cinoble and Saint-Paul de Fenouillet, along the D10/D7 road. From approximatively 42°50′48.96″N 02°28′25.45″E (North) until 42°50′07.47″N 02°28′49.39″E (South) you are allowed to walk alongside the road. There are car parks on both sides of this stretch. This portion of the road is approx. 1,5 km long. After the walk, a small minibus (1 €) can bring you back to the parking where you started. It's possible to do the stretch with your own car, but it is not allowed to stop while driving. To enjoy the scenery and take pictures, I would therefore recommend to do it by foot. At the southern point of the stretch, you can go down via a small path to visit the Ermitage, which includes a semi-open cave whit an altar (it was used as a church). There's a small souvenir shop and café at the Ermitage. The southern parking has a café and public toilets. The walk alongside the road takes about 20 minutes. Count 30 minutes if you include the detour via the Ermitage. Canyoning is possible in the gorge. Even though it is forbidden to go down in the gorge without proper equipment/supervision, lots of people don't seem to care. Organized canyoning groups start from the Southern parking.

Sentier du Littoral

We decided to do this walk from Argelès-sur-Mer to Collioure. The route in one word: beautiful. The route is going over the mountains near the sea. So you got a lot of beautiful sights on the sea, coast and the villages around. A lot of the mountains have a sort of stairs so this makes climbing much easier and safer. Tip: instead of taking the bus back to argeles you can take the boat. For 7euro you have a boat back to argeles (duration 15min)
