Alabama's largest impoundment of 69,000 acres with more than 900 miles of shoreline. Noted as an excellent bass lake and resort area. Stretches from Scottsboro to Guntersville.
This is is one of the nicest places to visit, from high upon the park you can look down on to the river and the scenery is spectacular, and at night the sunset looking down the river is spectacular. If you like to look at the wildlife a drive through the park will make the drive worth it, plenty of deer to look at and take pictures.

Home to Space Camp, Aviation Challenge and NASA's Official Visitor Information Center for Marshall Space Flight Center; The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is recognized as one of the most comprehensive U.S. manned space flight hardware museums in the world.
While on a road trip my wife and I stopped in here to how we the USA put a man on the moon. The museum it'self offers a lot of great information and many different displays some very exciting and some in need of a good facelift. But most important is realizing what it took to put together this space program and the people that we're able to accomplish the task. This was a challenge that had nothing to do with politics this was a program from people from every walk of life. Some who used their brains and some who used their hands. Some were men and some were women and there was a mix of gays and brown people. We were a Unites States of American that came together with a common cause and mastered the challenge. I saw people here the day we toured the museum that didn't speak English and I didn't speak their language but we were here to honor all the people who made this task a win-win for the whole world. There is a lot to see for all ages, movies, attractions like wall climbing for kids, old newspaper headlines, videos, many presentations, rockets and engines and lots of memorabilia. Parking is easy, food is available, and there is something for everyone. Extremely easy to get to off the interstate.

This unique ecosystem is perfect for winter hiking.
About a 1.5 mile hike, off the beaten path hidden within the Bankhead National Forest is a hidden waterfall along Caney Creek! It is not an easy find, but so worth the walk! Be prepared to play under the waterfall

This beautiful cave system features unique rock formations and ancient relics.
These caverns were an unexpected surprise! They are huge. The guide Stephanie was extremely knowledgeable and made the 90 minute tour fun. The caverns go about 3 quarters of a mile into the mountain. Do not miss this if you are in the area.

The birthplace of Helen Keller, this site provides tours and information and includes the historic pump that provided the "miracle" breakthrough.
You are greeted when you walk in and asked to sign in. Ladies are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their job. You get a pleasant account of Helen Keller's life and accomplishments. She was an interesting lady who overcame many obstacles. Facilities are on site in case you need a restroom and they are clean and well maintained. This is my second time here and it was well worth the repeat trip. I suggest parking across the street on in the rear of the buildings.

Museum honoring Alabama natives inducted into the Music Hall of Fame.
This museum was nicely laid out and very kid friendly. The woman working the front desk was very friendly and helpful. They had a scavenger hunt for the kids to do. There was a good variety of musicians and items on display. I think we were there maybe 2 hours doing the scavenger hunt and browsing the gift shop. I highly recommend.

Four-acre park providing a natural setting for 125 miniature reproductions of historic buildings and shrines created by a Benedictine monk of the St. Bernard Abbey in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Definitely a must see! The detail on these miniature structures is amazing. Take your time strolling through the Grotto, take lots of pictures and marvel at the talent, creativity and work that was involved in creating these replicas.
