The world's southernmost city is located on the Beagle Channel, between the Martial Range and the end of the world. It is a key access point to skiing at Cerro Castor and Glaciar Martial, wildlife adventures with penguins and orcas in the Beagle Channel, and Tierra del Fuego National Park. Of course, it’s also the port of call nearest Antarctica, and a unique destination for kayaking, sailing or having a drink in a warm hotel bar.

Patagonia Explorer is an Argentine company that has been providing non-conventional, exclusive and customized sailing tour services on the Beagle Channel since 1998. We sail with small groups of no more than 26 passengers in a friendly and familiar atmosphere (currently the capacity was reduced to 18 passengers under the covid-19 prevention protocol), accompanied by professional English- and Spanish-speaking tour guides. We sail on the KAMS and the TELIENKA Yachts, 15-meter long twin boats that allow getting real close to the islands where colonies of sea lions and cormorants live. The boats are equipped with all necessary boat safety equipment and meet all authorization requirements set by the Tourist Board of Ushuaia and the Argentine coast guard (Argentine Naval Prefecture). Currently we have adapted to new COVID-19 protocols to take care of your health and ours.

Spending one hour on the island to experience the penguins was a once in a lifetime experience. You'll take a small speed boat, referred to add a zodiac, for a 15 minute journey from estancias harberton. Once off the zodiac, you'll enjoy an up close walking experience of the penguin natural habitat. Wear layers and a rain worthy shell just in case. The guide provided an informative overview of the penguins and various habitat explanations.

Our proposal is to provide everything you need to navigate the waters of the beagle channel for an unparalleled experience. We will travel through different islands that make up the bridges archipelago and find the most prone sites to see sea lions and several species of birds characteristic of this region. We took our creative side to take photos with the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse, icon of Ushuaia. You will navigate to break away from the daily workload, and enjoying a fantastic 360° view of the channel from the panoramic point of Bridges island, after having hiked uphill. Around noon or the afternoon, depends on departure time that you choose, we share a snack with craft beer; and throughout the journey we have availability of tea, coffe or hot chocolate. Groups are small, which ensures a totally personalized treatment. Quality and human warmth make our guests feel at home straightaway. Therefore, we advise you to book in advance.

When my wife and I visited Ushuaia, one of the first stops we made was to this Tourist Center. While the center is not very large, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The center provides clean restrooms, seating as well as a variety of complimentary brochures and maps. Even more appreciated was a complimentary stamp to our passports along with a complimentary signed certificate confirming our visit to the bottom tip of Argentina! This Tourist Center is a great starting point for any first visit to Ushuaia as it provides a wealth of information that will enhance the journey around this beautiful city.

A marked trail in the center of town leads intrepid souls on a grueling hike up this glacier, for which they are rewarded with spectacular sweeping views of the southernmost tip of the earth.
I stayed in a hotel well up the road that leads to the Glacier so it was a nice hike from there. Although some people do it, I would not consider it safe to walk up the road from Ushuaia because of the nature of the road and lack of pavement for pedestrians. If you're in central Ushuaia, do get a taxi to a spot close to the Glacier (there's an actual tax rank, so you can get a taxi back.) I am not an experienced mountaineer and it was a glorious and not to difficult hike!
