This 16th-century painted monastery boasts thousands of images against a green background.
A fortress church with a really thick wall surrounding it. The wall paintings both inside and outside are impressive with the colour green being more prominent than other church painting we had seen. The church is very high so the acoustics are really good. We were lucky enough to here the pure voices of the Nuns singing as a service was in progress while we visited.

These monasteries are a must visit for anyone wanted a taste of the real romania. Dedicated by Stefan Cel Mare after victories in battle, they are covered in intricate and beautiful artwork. The paint used is a natural recipe that cannot be recreated, making them hard to maintain and protect. Despite this, they are beautiful and complex and the fading from the wind in some sense only makes them more interesting. There is also "graffiti" (carvings in the stone walls on some of the monasteries), some of them from over 200 years ago, that is interesting to see.

Starting with the sommer of 1993 the artist Lucia Condrea opened in Moldovita (Bukovina, Suceava- Romania) a museum that bears her name, unique in Romania and maybe in the world, having in mind the artistical value of the exhibits. The museum contains over 5500 exhibits, artistically disposed on the area of the two levels of the building in 56 display cases.
It was so intresting to step in a history of traditional eggs, usualy made by the local before Easter. But Lucia colected here a lot of intresting eggs all over the world and also a personal and impresiv colection. After you enter you get a reportofan and you have the oportunity to listen the history of everything that it is in side. If you near you should defenetly go and visit this museum!

Founded in 1532, this monastery's frescoes recreate the siege of Constantinople.
This monastery is placed in a wonderful landscape, the walls built from river stone are decorated with bricks and connect the rounded towers who defended the church many centuries. Inside you will discover a small museum where they have the real trone of Petru Rares and an award from UNESCO - Pomme d'Or.

This painted nun monastery is often referred to as the "Sistine Chapel of the East."
We stayed in Suceava, in NE Romania and visited several painted monasteries in the surrounding area. The monastery in Voronet was the best preserved one we visited. Extraordinary frescoes adorn the exterior and the interior of the church. The monastery is surrounded by beautifully kept flower beds. If you only have time to visit one painted monastery, I highly recommend the Voronet Monastery.

Must see for Romanian orthodox pilgrims and for lovers of art & history. The interior of the main church and the architecture are very beautiful. The inside paintings of the church were restored in the 2000s. Free entrance to the church, but no pictures / videos are allowed inside (only outside for a few of 10 RON). Museum available for visit against a fee. A nice shop outside the entrance with souvenirs, religious books and the like, cash only. Fair road to it, but pay attention to the other monastery located only a few km down the road, not to mix the locations by the GPS. Several accommodation and eating places nearby. No street sellers, at least at the moment of our visit (5-6 PM on 01.01).
