Between Biarritz and the Spanish border, the Atlantic fishing village of Saint-Jean-de-Luz combines Basque charm with pleasant, family-friendly beaches on the bay. July and August are the high season here, so if you'd rather avoid the tourist crunch, either book outside of those months or plan to arrive at the beach first thing in the morning.

We walked over the harbour bridge after visiting the smaller 'Eglise Saint-Vincent' which is also worth visiting. However this church is on a much larger scale with a very impressive altar. The organ was also playing at the time which made for a wonderful atmosphere.

From Bidart to Hendaye via Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the path of the coast is a easy hike allowing the discovery of exceptional panoramas. This path of a little more than 20 kilometers browses the coast of Bidart until Hendaye via Saint-Jean-de-Luz and by following the Basque Corniche of Urrugne.

This a place with a particular architecture. Inside you will find little shops with local producers. They sell some fresh products like fruits, vegetables, flowers, meats and fresh fishes. This is a moment of complicity with the local producers, and a moment of discovery for your papillaes. It's possible to take a glass and some pintxos between friends. The covered market is opened every day from 7 am till 1 pm every morning all year long. A food market takes place around the covered market on Tuesday morning and Friday morning all year long and on Saturdays mornings in July-August.
Wonderful visit to this market place. Beautiful displays of fish, meat, cheese, local cakes and pastries, vegetables and fruit. Very busy. Puts our markets to shame. Lovely town to walk around too. Lovely place to visit. Closes at 1pm.

The view offered since the hill of Sainte Barbe is a real postcard of the landscapes of the Basque Country! Mountain, ocean, the cliffs of flysch, the surfers... Situated on the path of the coast, the hill of Sainte Barbe is a harbor of greenery which welcomes numerous families attracted by the playground, the place to picnic.
