A very nice walk with a wonderful view of the mountains, go on a clear day though because otherwise you will not see the mountains and half of the experience will be gone. If you look carefully there are little markers on the rail that tells you what each mountain that you see is called.Yes there are cafes and restaurants along the way and it's very close to the town center. There is also the funicular that brings you to the lower part of the town and at the end of the walk there is the chateau de Pau. I live in Pau so I walk there often but I would recommend for tourists.

We walked over the harbour bridge after visiting the smaller 'Eglise Saint-Vincent' which is also worth visiting. However this church is on a much larger scale with a very impressive altar. The organ was also playing at the time which made for a wonderful atmosphere.

The author of Cyrano de Bergerac created a sumptuous theatrical decor for his dream home. The charming French and English gardens delight the visitor with their romantic walks. A veritable «poem in stone and vegetation», the Villa Arnaga has to be explored or reexplored :In 2014, you'll have the opportunity to admire the renewed gardens similar to the ones imagined by Edmond Rostand with their box wood embroideries, their topiary bushes, their plant vases, their mirror like pools. The "poets' corner " will surprise you with its lattice work. In a word a typical French garden with its perfectly geometrical design ! Open daily from April 1 to November 1. From April to June and September to November : 9:30 to 12:30 and 14h to 18h . In July and August : 10h -19h . In 2020, due to the Covid epidemic, our opening hours are modified. Please visit our website : arnaga.com
The gorgeous, highly individual rooms make perfect backdrops to the creative talents of the Rostand family in early 20th Century. The formal gardens echo the perspective. Unfortunately no tearoom because of the Confinement but nevertheless, a deligtful outing.

Propriété de l'académie de sciences, Abbadia, le Château Observatoire, surplombe la corniche basque et domine la baie d'Hendaye. Ses façades néogothiques et son intérieur richement décoré en font un lieu incomparable au Pays Basque.
Was a little sceptical about this tourist option, but we needed to pass some time. However the tour of the building well exceeded expectations! The guided tour is only in French but they gave us English guide books that were fine. The design, furniture and decor inside the many rooms of the Chateau are exceptional. Very pleased with our visit!
