The boat it is nice and quiet and there are no petrol fumes or exhaust , it is also good for getting close to the wildlife without disturbing it. We aim to treat this fragile ecosystem with respect and have minimal impact, our boat does not create a wake so we do not erode the mangroves. It provides sealed-road access to the northern section of the Daintree National Park, Cape Tribulation and allows people to travel onwards to Cape York via the Bloomfield Track. It is the only cable ferry operating within tropical Australia and is situated some 50 kilometres north of Port Douglas. The ferry is is operated by a commercial contractor on behalf of the Douglas Shire Council. It carries a maximum of 27 vehicles and takes about five minutes to cross the river. The Daintree Ferry operates continuously between 5am and midnight, daily.
Went on a return trip on the car ferry when we drove up to Cape Tribulation. Buying ticket was easy, couple of minutes wait for the ferry, quick trip across and same in reverse trip. Signs everywhere on the ferry tell you not to get out of your car - so take your pics from inside ????
