La Palma is a pristine paradise, set against a backdrop of volcanic landscape. Perhaps the best way to experience La Palma’s rugged beauty is a hike through the Caldera de Taburiente National Park or the narrow gorges of Los Tilos. The cool waters of natural swimming hole Charco Azul beckon on a steamy day. The dark sands of Playa Nueva are great for sunbathing and cat naps.

A stunning site to behold from different points. Definitely worth visiting by La Cumbrecita visitors' centre, very easy to reach by bus or tax or car, from which taxis are also available though some walk the steep climb to the initial viewpoint or drive to the Parking Point. An easy walk from there takes you into the caldera and even this arthritic old lady with bronchial asthma found it very comfortable gently down for the first kilometre and gently up back again.

Although the road to get there is "the long and winding road" it is certainly worth the effort. The views from the top and on the way up are spectacular. If you are on the island of La Palma this visit is a must. When we set off from the coast it was cloudy but at the top it was a beautiful sunny day.

We at OceanExplorer are a responsible whale watching company located at the Port of Tazacorte on the west coast of La Palma. We are a team of marine biologists and enthusiasts who love the ocean and his inhabitants and want to share it with our guests here on the island. The duration of the excursion depends of the boat (between 2,5 up to 4 hr.) We have 2 boats currently under our flag, the beautiful Bussard, max 12 pax on board including a freshly prepared meal and drinks for free during the excursion. The trip with the Bussard includes a swimming stop, visiting of the famous cliffs of the north west of La Palma and other highlights along the coast. Once our visits here concludes we are heading to the open sea to search for whales & dolphins. 4 hrs, available as a day trip and also our famous sunset trips! The Flipper is our whale watching boat specially designed for this purpose, always with a team of marine biologist. 100% guarantee of sightings or repeat the excursion for free.

It is not an easy walk to get to this beach and I would not recommend it to anyone with limited mobility. However, the way to the beach is absolutely amazing The cliff path is out of this world !!!! The beach itself is not the best for swimming as the currents are very strong so don't go out of your depth.

Thoroughly enjoyed our volcano trip, interesting display and information in the visitors centre before a little hike along the volcano ridge itself. Definitely glad I had a jacket as it got quite windy up there and the walk can be a little slippery underfoot so trainers at least are a sensible choice. Views from the top are spectacular and worth the walk, not sure the Spanish are so worried about health and safety as I doubt the single rope along the pathway would hold you back if you took a tumble.
