Grossglockner High Alpine Road

One of Austria's top 3 destinations amidst the Alps The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is like an ornament of ribbons located between green mountain pastures, colourful flower meadows, rocky rubble, ice and show. It nestles up against hills, follows the course of the natural ground and fits the mountains like a glove. Whooshing waterfalls, the shrill whistling of marmots and the howling wind in the summit regions create an unforgettable high alpine soundscape. And then, all of a sudden, he appears: his majesty, the Grossglockner, the black mountain. Join us for a journey beyond compare up high to the perpetual ice of the glacier!

The roads are well-maintained thus the entrance fee is worth it. Mountain landscape is breathtaking and heavenly. One can make short stops spontaneously for clicking or snacks. Restaurants are in major hot spots. No boring moment because the weather was glorious: sunny and blue skies. It would have been otherwise had it rain. Serpentine roads. Water falls upon reaching the the top of Grosglockner !

For my family, weather is important in visiting this Austrian mountain glory. After waiting for a sunny, blue skies and temperature above 25"C, we headed-off for a road trip from Munich, Germany. Car entrance fee € 36.50. But it was worth it. Every curve is fascinating unfolding of mountain views just as in the postcards. There is always a viewpoint for taking photos along the way. Serpentine roads. Snowcapped mountain tops. Delightful indeed. For a landscape lover, this is one terrific park to be. Restaurants are in strategic places for stops. Roads are well-maintained. This was our short covid break. Glad we did it !

Gerlitzen-Kanzelbahn

Reviewed By robinrJ6130DV - Belvedere, United Kingdom

We had a week here and found the skiing to be good. The piste map was inaccurate with it showing blue runs that turned out to be red ones when you got to them and plenty of the red runs were steeper than the couple of blacks on offer. The long pistes on the north of the resort were brilliant, offering something for all but beginners. If driving I would suggest parking at the bottom of the cable car (free parking) and catch the cable car up as it is included in your lift pass. The windows are scratched unfortunately but you can still see the amazing views even if photos are doubtful. If you drive up to the top of the cable car and park there you have to pay an €8 fee to use the access road. So it’s cheaper to just ride up each day. The ski school also has storage lockers with heaters for boots that can be rented for €8 a day for a big one. (4 people’s kit) so you don’t have to drag your gear up and down each day. The views from the top are amazing in a good day and the lifts quick and well placed. All of the staff we met spoke good English and were helpful they did not put themselves out but did everything that was requested without any issues. There are also a few small lockers at the base of the main lift from the top of the cable car available for €1 but you need to repay each time you open them, these can hold a fair size bag with room for coats and gear as you get warmer during the day. Rather than carrying everything all day.
